He did, however, sign new deals with Domino's Pizza and Twinkies.

Not a smart move, they could have had all the potheads reaching for a bowl of Coco Pops to go with their bowl.

He must be an idiot. Didn't he realize the shelf life of a swimmer in terms of marketing longevity is much shorter than a baseball, basketball, soccer or football player???

Even if he goes on to the next Olympics (which he may not participate in) he would have another two years (at most) after that to make the big money through endorsements.

I'm glad they dropped him. Seems he didn't learn anything after being busted for a DUI. I'm surprised people overlook that. Much worse than smoking pot. The guy is arrogant. Amazing swimmer but a jerk.

Give him a break. He's got to make an appetite for those 8000 calories a day somehow.

SO much for that plan to market Kellogg's products to people with the munchies...

The company did not renew its deal with the US Olympic Team, which expired in December.

Sorry for the double-post, but.. AH HA. A Reuters report says Kellogg's earnings are slightly up but the company is expecting a rocky 2009 because of the dollar. Maybe Phelps could have held on, in a better economic climate.

That's funny. I am not encouraging anybody to smoke pot, I even thinks that makes idiots people even sillier as they were. But surely the practice doesn't do worse for public health than Kellogs' breakfast sugaring-fattening of generations of obeses.

Wonder if he'll now score an endorsement package from the Bong Hits 4 Jesus organization?

Cover boy for "High Times"

Phelps was an idiot to put himself in this situation. But at the same time whoever took and sold the photo is a pretty big wanker.

I am boycotting Kellogg for their self-righteous hypocrisy. The crap they put in their products infinitely more harmful than a few tokes every now and then.

Oh yeah, cereal is a real menace. Get a grip!

I am boycotting Kelloggs for my own health reasons. I don't give a damn about Michael Phelps or the Olympics, there are so many better things to give our attention to, such as helping the child-soldiers in the Congo. Maybe Phelps can help them. Does he help anyone? Selling Kelloggs to fat Americans won't help anyone.

Classic!

Who really cares? Blowing things out of proportion regarding pot has always been the medias goal...you cant have J without being labeled a bad person but you can steal billions and keep your job. What a joke...

When you are in high office, whether in government, church, sports or even as a recognized private celebrity, you must be careful about who you deal with or who are out there to get you. I continue to enjoy my simple life with no fame or glory. It is the best.

Maybe the drug barons, who have a bumper crop this year, paid him double Kellogs endorsement into a secret Swiss bank account to take a hit.

Kellogs sales down, dope up.

Its all about merchandising.

He's only 23. He can beat this and come back.

“Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust.”

And will never again allow anyone with a camera anywhere near him when he’s getting out of his head

He's a dumb kid.

Oh please he just smoked a little pot who cares.

doesn't this kill the idea that smoking pot somehow limits your potential? this guy has more gold medals than some people have teeth!

The US is so up tight about the "war on drugs" that the sponsors are going to have to react and I'm sure the Sunday sermons will have a lot about Phelps and what a bad example he is. I'm always amazed at the amount of hypocracy the US is willing to put up with. Drink, pot, tobacco, whatever. It's tough to explain to my son why everybody is busy criticizing Phelps while they are sucking down their third beer.

On the other hand with all the camera phones in the world no celebrity is more than one photo op away from humiliation. Which is why the press exists, isn't it. Face it, privacy is pretty much over. It's a strange new world.

That want to protect their brands "Bran Buds" and "Honey Smacks."

This is just stupid. Yeah, he may have one an ass-load of olympic medals at 23, but apparently none of that matters because he took a bong hit at a college party. Thanks, Nixon.

"he just smoked a little pot who cares"

So many people, it'll make your head spin faster than if you took a drag off a joint filled with Acapulco Gold, ha ha ha!

"And this from the company that feeds our children Fruit Loops, Cocoa Puffs and other such garbage"

No worries, Michael will soon have a contract with General Mills, the company that feeds our children and adults Cap'n Crunch! Ha ha ha!

Bad judgement.

Dubious, in fact.

I use to look up to the lad... But not any more. As a person that believes in morals and standards and chivalry I was rather disappointed by his actions, and to think that my little brothers looked up to him is also worrisome. People can make the wrong decisions and actions at any time, but when you are looked upon by children I think there is a bit of responsibility with the actions you choose and take. I feel sorry for the lad....

Maybe the guy was actually looking for a way out. He's got nothing to prove to anyone.
