Despite all these ill-intentioned disparagers shrilling at every petty chance to belittle him here at JT, Kei is the best tennis player in Asia's history. Big or not big, currently he has so few rivals in the whole wide world: one from Serbia, one from Scotland, one from Switzerland, and one from Spain. There may be another one from Argentina. From the vast North America? No one, since quite the past few years! Kei's fans keep cheering him on, having high hopes of him, but they have never deified him. Seeing deification out of nowhere as a means of criticism reveals not only the critic's semantic failure to comprehend but also the critic's arbitrary twist of others' words to fit his own bias.

Tennis. What a racket.

Hehe! I love the puns.

just hate the people celebrating fetes he's never accomplished

Like the person who wrote this?

"I think Nishikori will win it all [the US Open], given this victory [over Djokovic], and he still has quite a few years left to go to win a lot more. Congrats to him, and good luck in the final!" -- smithinjapan, Sep 7 2014

In any case, don't hate. Ever. Especially over sports. Peace.

People who cannot criticise Kei or others should be ashamed of themselves

Never observed such a person myself. On the contrary I have seen people who criticise baselessly, and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Nishikori's fans for example are not going to deny that he has struggled with injuries and going the full distance in the tough Grand Slam events, for example. Nor are they going to claim he has the best serve in the game.

But to make out that Nishikori is not deserving of what he has achieved with the skills he does possess is not valid criticism, and we've seen plenty of that here at JT.

Kurobune: "As for Kei-san, I'm beginning to think that WHATEVER the guys does the haters will hate "

Why, what did he do? I don't know anyone that hates him at all -- just hate the people celebrating fetes he's never accomplished as though he is entitled to them and more. And that's not criticism of him, it's of the people. What dharmadan has pointed out is 100% correct, and even Warwinka has said there is no 'best five' and considers himself world's apart from the 'big four'. There is something supposed 'fans' need to learn in order to not be called fanatics; it is perfectly valid to criticise and point out shortcomings in those you support. Fail to do so, in fact, and you are putting them up on an impossible pedestal, and making them out to be more than human. People who cannot criticise Kei or others should be ashamed of themselves for not paying that person the proper respect as a human being and instead treating him like a god.

dharmadan: "Kei in at No.5, and yet, he's not really in "the big five" until he can win a slam or three."

Agreed. Or else, as some are hoping, he'll be number one when the greats retire.
