Congratulations!

I'd hardly call that shattering, more like barely scraping by

Well done!

Fair enough but the lad still deserves a pat on the back.

This is massive. At least one man in each of the 3 'major' races (Blacks, Caucasians and Asians) has now broken the 10 second-barrier over 100m.

He had a 1.8 meter per second tailwind.... the legal limit is 2.0 meters per second in order for a time to stand as a recognized record. 2 meters per second works out to roughly 4.5 miles per hour.

I know, Debbie Downer, but a new record at a hometown track with a strong tailwind doesn't mean much, and shouldn't mean that much to real competitor.
What you do on the biggest stage against the biggest competition is what all athletes think about, not a cakewalk race in Fukui.

The Japanese sprinters have been doing well in recent years. It is great to see them competing at a world class level in a sport that they have not had that much of a history of success in. Now that Bolt has retired the field is wide open.

That’s good time. Well done.

It may not be a big deal outside of Japan, but Japan has been waiting for this record since Ito Koji achieved 10:00 sec national record about 20 years ago. It took so long to break the wall. It's really appropriate to call "shattering."

I agree, and Kiryu already has a silver medal at the Olympics.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what the Chinese also thought when Su Bingtian broke then 10 second barrier at the World Championships, back in the summer of 2015.
Just saying.
