Congratulations, Shin-Yokozuna Kisenotasato!! All the more impressive in the end!

Said it once, I'll say it again. To heck with all the naysayers ! He hung in there, and he won ! The "idiotic" Japanese fighting spirit that someone mentioned payed off in the end ! Ganbarre, Shin-Yokozuna Kisenotasato ! TSUYIO ZO ! ! !

That was an awesome Senshuraku. I'm hooked on Sumo what a great sport!

Well said Kurobune.

One of the greatest sports moments of the year no question. Talk about winning against the odds, unbelievable!

I stand corrected. I had my doubts but the outcome proves me wrong. Congratulations, yokozuna Kisenosato!

I loved it. My wife (Japanese) immediately piped up, "Of course it was fixed."

That was extraordinary. We have been so sad for the last 2 days after Kisenosato's injury. We never felt he would have the strength to fight to the last day. But what a performance! A true Yokozuna.

not saying this influenced anything but i think we can all agree that it would have been a disaster PR wise if Kisenosato lost to a ozeki in his Yokozuna debut. It would make the people who decided to promote him look bad.

I am glad he won and that he hung in there.

This does however really highlight how rushed his promotion was. He has now won two Yusho in a row, which has been the de facto standard for promotion since they contrived it to keep Konishiki at Ozeki. If they had just waited another tournament, Kisenosato would now be on his way to confirmation as Yokozuna without everyone having the distinct impression they lowered the standards to let a Japanese guy attain the rank.

Its also interesting that if Teranofuji had won (which he nearly did), that would have given him 2 Yusho to Kisenosato's 1. Yet nobody is seriously considering Teranofuji for Yokozuna (which is fair since he has been very inconsistent due to injuries as an Ozeki, but still.....)

I think Kisenosato should not have played after he was injured on the 13th day of the tournament. Jeers and booiings against Terunofuji when he won against Kotoshogiku on the 14th day was furious and scared him enough. They jeered him as much as " Go home to Mongol!." Terunofuji might have worried what would happen to him if he wins against Yokozuna Kisenosato and wins the tournament. It was not a fair game and the attitude of Osaka fans was racial and very bad. It is unthinkable that severely injured Kisenosato who cannot use his left arm can win two bouts consecutively against Terunofuji.
