“It’s frustrating,” Mariners perennial All-Star and cornerstone Ichiro said, through his interpreter. “It’s not just his responsibility (that we’re losing). It’s the whole team’s responsibility.

“I don’t think it’s fair to say the manager’s responsible to take the blame, because he’s not.”

Ichiro should be fired for such careless comments but hope GM will overlook and allow him to collect 200 hits this season.

Nice timing, right before the Mariners held their Japan Heritage Night.

@ some14some

Maybe that is his strategy, to be released.

GM needs to be the one fired. Obviously is a very poor manager of personal.

Thats ok, Texas Rangers are better to watch ;D

Ah, my dear Mariners. That`s 7 coaches in 8 years. Apparently they forgot it took Lou Pinella 6 years to build a winning franchise. So we will get another coach to fire in a year, meanwhile Wak will no doubt get hired by a winning team.

Some14some, Ichiro is 100% correct. This team is loaded with overpaid, useless talent who play poorly and act like children (Figgins. Enough said). Managers do not run bases poorly, strike out, or drop pop flys. The M`s players got Wakamatsu fired.

Darn slow at rearning some engrish there Ichiro-san, aren't ya? I mean if I spent that long in Basque country (notably one of the more difficult languages to pick up) I hope I would be able to comment coherently on topics related to my job by now.

Agree with Ultradude about Ichiro's still depending on an interpreter, though he supposedly can converse quite well on his own. Same for Matsui and the others. At least Hasegawa made a point to learn and use English.

Ichiro is probably concerned with being misunderstood or misquoted, which might be why he still uses an interpreter. Understandable. But Basque country? Seattle is far from it, Ultradue.

Ichiro's communication concern is nothing more than a paradox... the fact that Japanese players continue to use an interpreter is because of him... he knows quite well that he is a pioneer (of sorts), yet he continues to display a poor example... and now his words (or interpreters) are coming back to haunt him... check foxsports...

the best thing that could happen for the Mariners is for Ichiro to NOT get 200 hits this year... then the Japanese media will get over that fascination, and just maybe Hiroshi Yamauchi will give the OK to managers to move him around in the lineup...

Ichiro handles daily conversation quite well. The only reason he uses an interpreter is to avoid misunderstandings. Unfortunately, they still occur.

Typical J-dude! Shy about using English. His rants to hype up the American League team for the All-Star game while in the locker room away from the press are in English and are legendary. From what I've heard, they'd make a sailor weep.
