Google "London Olympics empty seats". Many seats were reserved for the "Olympic Family" but went unoccupied. I hope the IOC will not allow a similar fiasco in Tokyo.

Nope. Unfortunately, not. The only people who would be able to get them without entering the lottery would have to go through sponsorships or possibly family of athletes. The JOC really prides itself on the appearance of fairness. I'm sure my husband could ask one of his athlete friends for tickets but he's not a POS and has too much pride for that. Believe it or not, unless you're Mori level high up, it's quite difficult to pull those strings. Unless you have questionable morals - something my husband doesn't have.

I think government officials doesn't have that problem. They probably won't even know what a lottery is.

My husband is a government official, working directly with the Olympics. He couldn't get tickets. But I, a foreign resident, managed to get 2 (after trying over and over again). Believe me, it was entirely randomized.

He has to be really low in hierarchy then as he had to go through lottery!

Go to your local Japan Travel Agency and tell them you want to see some Olympic events. They will pull out a brochure with a ton of varieties to choose from. You do have to book a hotel with it as well, but there are lots of tickets for all events available.

Yeah, who wants to book an overpriced hotel stay for multiple people during the busy season to get Olympic tickets. I just won the lottery and only have to pay for the tickets.

Not much logic in your argument!

More than 200.000 yen for a ticket, for that price I would rather buy a nice tv and watch the event from home.

Through this final lottery, I got two set of tickets yesterday! Same event for daytime and evening! 24,000 yen!

Sigh....it would have been a lot easier if I bought them from my home country like I originally planned.

'Rubens

Hard to disagree. I'd buy the nice TV and watch something else.

Not everyone can go. That's just the way it is

An acquaintance of mine has been unable to get any ticket in the lotteries- however she was able to get tickets to one of the marquee events through a connection at one of the Games’ official sponsors (I am sure that everyone reading this knows the company’s name). I think this pattern will be quite common- who you know is more important than the luck of the draw.

My partner and I tried three times for tickets now. Got nothing. I'm secretly pleased. The Olympics is suppossed to be about the best athletes in the World competing peacefully. Instead, it has been hijacked by the nationalists and these days is all about flag waving and representing your country. It's a shame that ugly nationalism has to spoil what could be a great Worldwide event.

Weird thing is that we apply using 4 accounts but 1 of the accounts hit for 2 sets of tickets for this lottery and 2 sets for the 1st lottery. Anyone on here who are dying to go need to try on their own country's ATR. Tickets are readily available on them. I am not picky, I'll watch anything.

One of my mates got a bunch of tickets, it seems like some win a lot and others win nothing. You'd think it would be more evenly distributed, with more winners getting less tickets each.

I hate conspiracy theories - but something feels wrong. I know a lot of people who applied and not one person was able to get a ticket to a major event. Not one.

I know there is a large population, but something doesn't feel right.

Unbelievably, I managed to luck out and finally get 2 tickets... to a coveted event final no less. Every person in our family and extended family have put in for literally every event we could and I'm the only one who got any. Glad to be taking our daughter, otherwise I wouldn't even have put it.

Rigged system not intended for the locals but to bring in more tourism and yen.

23 to 1 odds, better odds that the year end lottery!
