Spot on about the keepers. The last thing you need to do is to gift City and Liverpool goals. Sheffield United are a tough side. Everton improved on last week’s disgrace but Silva is running out of time. We badly need a result next time out.

Tbf defending's never been a priority in the pl, most teams are into high risk high reward football & fans love it. Different story/culture on the continent where many/most teams play a 9-1 formation against barca, real, inter, psg, juve etc week in week out, even at home.

Different football culture.

Fair point, but I still expect my keeper to do the basics.

Not saying pl defenders are crap, just different defensive tactics. Even during last year's ucl campaign all eng clubs conceded plenty of goals vs pretty much all opponents (liverpool lost all 3 away games incl at red star, city and spurs werent that great either i mean defensively home/away, city lost vs lyon at home). But they scored/won when it mattered most.

Agree with what you say zichi re back wingers, guys like mendy, alexander arnold or boly (or bale before) do create so many chances. Wouldnt/couldnt play like this on the continent or with their NT though.

Only watched lloris' howler. what was he thinking (and not the first time).

Jim, gold, zich - try being a Gooner and watching our defence and defensive midfield every week. gold is correct - Klopp and Guardiola have changed the ecology of defence in the premier league. I just wish that Emery would utilise Aubameyang, Lacazette, and Pepe a la Liverpool.

Given the similarity of both goals of Wijnaldum against Sheffield United in round 7 and Barca in the 2019 Champions League semifinal, Steve Douglas' argument seems to be too simplistic in the case of Liverpool's victory.
