“Through the window of Hangzhou Asian Games, people around the world will see a trustable, loveable, and respectable China in its new era,” Xinhua, the official news agency, said in an editorial, echoing Xi’s call to tell China's story.

Now make sure not to say or do anything or you might get arrested.

@sakurasuki

Well you have figures which show transparency.

You won't get that from China!!

And we know what will happen with the facilities after the games are over.

Great to see all Asian nations coming together for what will surely be a bonding experience. Shattered Europe must be looking on with envy.

Go Japan!

Pretty sure most are not even aware of it, I live in Asia and didn't even know it started.

If you think 2 weeks of a sports event will sugar-coat all the negative behaviour of Communist China in the region in the eyes of Asian democracies, you are sadly mistaken.

Waste of time and money regardless of the location. Sports and entertainment should not be given any tax money for the time being. There are far more important issues that need to be addressed.

Tokyo Olympics only counted 15 thousands for the whole olympics event

Well, that was during the peak of the deadly COVID pandemic.

Tokyo Olympics is one costliest olympics in history

Well, much of that money went into various pockets....

In China games are sheer politics. Everything is political there but games are among the most. And, mind, it is Chinese politics, not your run-of-the-mill western politics.

@Happyhere: Great to see all Asian nations coming together ...  Europe must be looking on with envy.

LOL: Meanwhile the top news story headline: Philippines condemns Chinese 'floating barrier' in South China Sea

And I don't think many Asian nations would consider Iran, North Korea, or Syria nations they'd like to cosy up to.

There were no audible jeers for any delegation.

What an odd sentence to include in this article.

But of course, as usual there has to be something negative if mentioning China in the anti China western press.

This is the country that made 400k nuisance calls to the Japanese embassy and is famous for unofficial embargoes against countries.

They have all been practicing for five years and more. Breaking old records and setting new ones is the driving ambition of every athlete privileged to participate in the Asian Games. Wishing all participants joy.
