The F20 class in shot put is far athletes with an intellectual disabilities.

I think it should "The F20 class in shot put is FOR athletes with an intellectual disabilities."

Moderator: Yes, you are right. It has been corrected.

At first sight disqualifying someone with intellectual disabilities for arriving 3 minutes late for an event in a foreign country seems incredibly harsh. Wonder if there is more to this story that is being reported?

For only 3 mins? FFS! They are handicapped. Give them a break!!!

This seems like a very heavy handed response for a minor infraction.

Jesus, DQed an athlete with intellectual disabilities for arriving 3 minutes late. Bravo.

Also, if you're going to hate on someone, don't hate on Ukrainians, hate on the organisers/referees. Kinda feel bad for the Ukrainian team here.

Just give everyone a gold medal and be done with this pointless, waste of money fiasco.

disqualifying a guy for being late ??? wow

Must have dinosaur JR train staff as timing officials. Hence 3 minutes late in unacceptable :)

The F20 class in shot put is for athletes with an intellectual disabilities.

It's still wrong. Either remove "an" or make "disabilities" singular.

The F20 class is either for athletes with intellectual disabilities or it is for athletes with an intellectual disability.

Disqualifying athletes with intellectual disabilities for being 3 minutes late is nasty, mean-spirited and abusive.

Don't blame the Ukrainians. Unleash your online venom on the petty officials, who deserve it.

In the spirit of fairness, if all athletes there were placed in the same condition and some arrived early and some late, then the disqualification is fair.

It's a frigging circus whatever way one looks at it!

A man with intellectual disabilities was late THREE MINUTES in a foreign nation and with announcements in how knows how many languages (and how many left out), and with the turd in charge saying, "Oh yeah? Well most people show up EARLY!" as justification? Not only is it far too strict, it has NOTHING to do with the athletes ability. The guy won because he was the best, and it's being taken away from him because of a man who is not intellectually disabled saying those that are need to be more punctual.

International Paralympic Committee spokesman Craig "I'm sorry. Rules are rules” Spence said their excuse for arriving three minutes late was that they didn't hear the announcement or it was in a language they did not understand. The F20 class in shot put is for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Spence’s attitude begs the question; was it his sporting prowess in this event that got him the gig? That’s the only reason I can think of why he’s there.

Pure stupidity from the IPO for this disqualification! They are disabled and intellectually disabled to be precise! Time management and intellectual disability don’t go together. It was only 3 minutes and definitely for disabled games there must be some leeway! Goes to show how disabled people are discriminated against at the highest level. The Olympics executives are just filling their pockets with cash and enjoying the luxurious benefits while the games happen in Tokyo as it was their only goal from the start! These Olympics executives are corrupt to the core!

I thought the guy must have failed a drug test or something. Sadly I must agree with most of the posters here. There must be more to this story. I know they run these events on a tight schedule but… did Craig Spence go off to consult the rule book or call for advice?

On the face of it, this seems to be an OTT reaction. To end up with not gold, not silver, not bronze, but no medal at all!?!?!?

If you’re late for classes in Japan, you are required to provide a dated and stamped note from the station master saying that your train was late or cancelled. This sounds like much the same sort of thing. A set of rules agreed to in advance? Is that it?

Appeal, appeal, appeal!!!

I'm assuming the Ukrainians are receiving hate because some Malaysian news sites are reporting that the disqualification came after the Ukrainian team's protest of Malaysia's infraction.

So after people with tunnel vision expected to notice car coming, we have people with intellectual deficiency expected to be able to fully listen and understand some message from a speaker.

He said he did not see this as a harsh penalty.

Stripping a medal is not harsh ? Just the same sanction than for doping, seriously : "not harsh".

Perhaps, one should start learning what it means to be part of F/T 20.

They should leave the Ukrainian athletes alone.

Actually, it should be with an intellectual disability OR with intellectual disabilities.

Just as I said, yesterday.
