your wife will be excited, Preston North End vs Liverpool. League Cup

She’s half-arsed as usual when it comes to football. She quite fancies the Liverpool keeper but I don’t think that’ll be enough to hold her attention for 90 minutes.

Brilliant game with Liverpool last night. Best game of the season up to now.

Mourinho was prevented from rebuilding the squad as he wished but OGS has been given 413m quid to spend since he joined, with absolutely nothing to show for it.

You do wonder what a manager in the Guardiola, Klopp or Tuchel class would have done with that kind of cash.

Maybe bought at least one average centre-midfielder?

It's crazy - the management panicked and bought Ronnie to appease discontented fans, but didn't bother buying anyone to cross the ball in to him. In fact, they sold Dan James to Leeds. They just collect famous players on astonishing contracts and trust in them to win the games; it's no wonder their only trophies in the last 7 years were when Mourinho was there, and he went down like a lead balloon with the board and supporters.

It's telling that no-one of the status of Klopp, Tuchel, Poche or Tuchel will go there - there's no chance of fixing the club until the ghost of Ferguson is exorcised.

aJohn Noun,

I agree.

Villa's manager has done a sterling job.

They blitzed Everton last week and now the away win at Old Trafford.

City dominated Chelsea for the most part. Chelsea looked like the away side. Villa continue to impress along with West Ham.

Brentford v Liverpool was a stormer for the neutral.

Norwich are absolutely dire. Everton were average with key players injured but still managed to beat them reasonably easily. I can’t see any way Norwich are going to stay up.

Exceptional performance from City to beat Chelsea. Only 1-0, but it could have been two or three. If they can beat Liverpool next week, a tall order at Anfield I know, then the title race will be wide open again.

The Goldman Sachs Soccerdevils have to do something about Solskjaer. He's tactically inept and only has the job because he's one of Ferguson's old boys. The Liverpool Brentford game was great entertainment but the Bees really do waste a lot of time. It's reminiscent of Burnley in their heyday.

What's real football?

So happy to see that chest Fernandes miss a penalty. Villa impressive.

Meanwhile Port Vale won at Scunthorpe in the league for the first time since 1973.

You bring back Penaldo and don't let him take the penalty?

Brazil and Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus is doing fine. Well played.

I believe that the Championship is the 2nd most exciting league in Europe, after the Premier league
