Yeah well Ichiro has never been a leader, outside of his own super high slap numbers he doesn't seem to go all out. But he is a cash cow for seattle.

Stays at different hotels? Maybe that is why his English sucks.

makes you wonder how many different hotels the Yankees must be using for their road games

Ichiro is just like Vince Carter in the NBA. An incredibly gifted athlete who will never lead a team anywhere, because he's just too selfish. True stars make those around them better, will carry a team on their backs when necessary, and on some nights win games that they shouldn't through sheer force of will. These two clowns are obsessed with their own stats and fat contracts.

difficult situation for the Mariners You can't win with Ichiro but he is one of the best players. What to do? Can they sell tickets if Ichiro is not there? Would Seattle be better with Manny?

Sound like he's been Americanized. He should be more like Matsui and Dice-K.

"Sound like he's been Americanized"

Surely you jest. Just how many American professional ballplayers stay at different hotels from their teammates ? Hard for some of you to accept the truth, Ichiro is a class A "A-O" ! The Mariners aren't winning with him, send him packing... maybe "Pittsburgh" !

I think he's become Americanized because he lost, namely was allowed, to lose his modesty. Ishii, Shinjo, Dice-K, Matsui, Nomo and other Japanese players never were treated like that. I do agree that he should be traded.

Putz is a pr##k for going to the media with his complaints. Why doesn't he just face Ichiro man-to-man? "There's more he can do ..." he says. Like what? Give me an example where Ichiro put himself above the team. He seems worth his $19 million to me.

Staying in a different hotel is nothing to get your feelings hurt over. How many awkward and jumbled conversations can he stomach anyway?

I am not a fan of Ichiro, but a team does not lose as many games as it does because of one player. And going after Ichiro this early does not look good for the Mariners.

It will be interesting when "the Kid" comes back to Seattle this year. It was just reported in the Seattle Times that Griffey is coming home. Hopefully he can put up some good numbers, now that his injuries have healed. There's no doubt that he will bring in fans, even during this rebuilding year. He may be able to provide some leadership!

ichiro is not a leader. too bad the mariners lost both tino martinez and edgar martinez in the span of 3 years. now they've got a host of talent, and no clubhouse/lockerroom leader to take all that talent in any sensible direction. assuming he doesnt't have a no trade clause, send mr. suzuki to kansas city for whatever the royals are willing to part with. that'll teach him to be such an arrogant so-and-so.

The problem is Seattle is a basketcase after years of poor personel decisions. How many millions of dollars did Jeff Weaver and Richie Sexson underperform for? Beltre has been a big dissapointment. Now they sign an ageing, injury prone Ken Griffey Jr. for probable the final year of his career. What is Ichiro to do? In this kind of environment, I would probable be selfish too and look to pad my stats. Seattle isn't going anywhere fast, they have a good start in Putz and King Felix, and a superstar in Ichiro, but the rest of the team is mediocre at best.

What is Ichiro to do ? Well it appears he surveyed the landscape, himmed and hawed a bit, and then signed on the dotted line for millions of dollars ! Sorry Duck, you seem to want to justify Ichiros behaviour by placing the blame on Seattle. I say nonsense, Ichiro didn't have to sign with Seattle... he chose to. The fact that that decision is blowing up in his face in nobodys fault but his. I say if Seattle is smart they trade him ! Griffey is back in town, Japans economy is all but sunk so you aint gonna see any Japanese tourists anytime soon... yep, Ichiro has all but worn out his welcome. Ship him off to Toronto... let the Canadians deal with him for a change.

Mariners will never trade Ichiro. He's the face of the franchise. The owner is japanese, and he was a hero here for 7 straight batting titles before going to play in MLB. I say give the guy a break. He obviously doesn't violate any MLB codes (steroids etc.) and has he ever missed games due to injury? He's the consummate jock talent. Allow him his idiosyncracies of staying at different hotels. Why not? I'm sure he pays the fee out of his salary, which he's earned through his performance.
