No-one is denying her record and incidentally, she was 2nd choice for lighting the torch.

"Mr Suzuki "didn't want to be involved with the Olympics during a pandemic so choice "B" that would be known by US audiences was Osaka.

I consider her American even though she lists Japan as her nationality

everything about her personality screams ‘American’

Apparently free speech does not enter your hemisphere. The greatest champions adapt to and conquer all conditions, not just hard court surfaces.

Bit premature to judge her business acumen don't you think?

People accomplish great things outside of the sporting arena, so don't pontificate on things you are unaware of.

Come on, let's just ignore her and her every headlines. Nothing to do with us and it's wasting our time.

Excuse, excuse again...

People that could never walk in Naomi's shoes or come close to earning what she makes are here spouting hate and for what? Has she taken anything from the sport ? No she hasn't, Japan is lucky to even have a tennis player like her to represent them because if not her who else has even come close to achieving what she has? Before you spout hate and vile go accomplish something comparable to what she has.

She has won 4 grand slams

Has been ranked No.1

Is the top earning female athlete for 2020-2021. No other Japanese was even in the top ten.

And I am sure she will be for 2022 as well.

Represented her country at the Olympics and lit the Torch. She didn't medal but she showed up. Where were you?

Owns her own business and has transitioned into a savvy business woman

All of this by the age of 24.

Grown men and women picking on a 24 year old girl that you cant even be in the same room with.

What have you all accomplished.

Sit down and think about how you can contribute to society.

She was never going to play at Wimbledon. She doesn't rate prestige, she rates points standing.

Must have great sponsor contracts that pay for no play.

She's too gloomy all the time.

"One hit wonder"? Are you for real?

You do realize Naomi has won FOUR Major singles titles, right? The only Japanese person to have won even one.

Haters gonna hate.

Unbelievable that she's world's highest paid female athlete. Proof that today's professional sports is not a meritocracy.

Not just today, it has been like this for a long time. Long time tennis fans should remember Anna Kournikova well.

Sadly turning into the equivalent of a "one hit wonder" musical group.

I am not a fan of N. Osaka. However...

From Wikipedia:

Age: 24

Price money earned: $21,050,567

Highest ranking: No. 1 (January 28, 2019)

Grand slams won: 4

Osaka is one of the world's most marketable athletes, having been ranked eighth among all athletes in endorsement income in 2020. She was also the highest-earning female athlete of all time by annual income that year.

I believe many female professional tennis players would like to join this "one hit wonder" music group.

The media should do everyone a favor and not report on anything she does until she wins again.

As with every story about Naomi, there is a lot of irrational hate, nastiness, and above all jealousy from the usual suspects.

Get well soon Naomi!

get a high school degree and a job

Oh, dear. I think you’ll find she’s got more than enough money already. Shed loads of it in fact.

I sense a bit of jealousy here. No need to get hissy about those who succeeded.

Unbelievable that she's world's highest paid female athlete. Proof that today's professional sports is not a meritocracy

I think that’s been true for a while. Looks, marketability, character etc. have always been in the mix along with skill. David Beckham was a very good player but nowhere near the best. He pulled in more cash than far superior players.

She should just retire already! She is too fragile for the sport! And the mental ain’t all there!!

Anyone in their right mind could please explain what the hell was she doing lighting up the torch at the Olympics?

Japan wants to look diverse in the world's eye, but we who live here know the real story.

Been a tough year for Naomi. She gets a lot of undeserved criticism from the non Japanese audience too. All of Japan will be behind her when she gets back to full health. Young Japanese women especially need her as a role model. Good luck Naomi!

If it has to bea female (and in this age they would never propose a male), then Japan has enough true Olympics heroes in judo and wrestling...

That not good, she should get hyperbaric treatment with an extra molecules of oxygen Google Hyperbaric Tendon Treatment

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

She did this to her self! She fired Sascha Bajin Because he was to hard on her. Her generation is weak! They can’t handle criticism of any kind or they have complete meltdowns. She is no longer worth watching let alone supporting. Japanese went crazy for her and she let them down during the Tokyo Olympics!

Time to focus on real tough athletes who can endure the criticisms that come with being a top world class athlete.
