What an absolute woke travesty.

Hahaha, nothing wrong with everyone being included.
the obvious answer to equality for all is simply to remove gender catagories completely.
instead of mens and womens events, we simply have ‘Tennis’. Where unfortunately the women will be annihilated by the men.
I think everyone should be fine with that.

There should be a separate event for such athletes. As there should be a category for such people on dating apps.
Mr Kipling
Time for women, real women to stand up for their rights.
Only_In_Japan
This is wrong and unfair to women on so many levels. I'm ashamed to call myself a kiwi.

OMG, more of absolutely pathetic woke nonsense? There's going to be a backlash and all this woke rubbish will be totally swept away.
But if this woke nonsense is really necessary, let's have 3 categories in events ie men, women and others.

So basically its a way to cheat! Well done NZ!

If they don’t, they will be the big losers (prestige & money)

What is a woman?
it’s anyone who identifies as a woman.
Yes, but what element defines woman as distinct from other gender categories.
It’s anyone who says they’re a a woman.
Yes, that’s fine, but…oh, never mind.

The article says " That could mean removing urinals..... " LOL ! and a few other things too. LOL.

In any kind of contact sport, women could be injured, maimed or even killed by this nonsense. Women's rugby is a particular concern for this, if one player with a male bulk, muscle mass and speed is hitting a women full on. And as for martial arts and boxing, MMA, etc. the potential for serious damage should be obvious to all.
Clown world will literally kill you.

Interestingly enough, there are no biological female transgenders wanting to compete with males in any sport. Why is that?
tooheysnew
let’s not forget that they would have to start playing 5 setters, & now they’re getting a lot less prize money, for more effort.
how long would it be until the women (real women) start complaining that’s it not fair.
Blacklabel
No way this could backfire. No way at all. Go woke!

IF gender is to be a non-issue, then how about community sport being gender free entirely? I can't think of a better way to drive women out of sport than forcing them to compete with men constantly.
Plus, gender isn't "assigned" at birth. Sounds like doctors just randomly guess! Gender is recorded at birth, mostly it is pretty easy to see! Meat and 2 veg, male. And so on.
All this will take is a pot of money for the "liason officers", remodelling all facilities, and so on. What could possibly go wrong...

Competition wise it's extremely unfair. It's also at the least uncomfortable and at the most downright dangerous to have biological men in the female locker rooms. Is Ms Adern really OK with this? Time for women around the world to revolt against this madness.
Fighto!
I'd have thought that was plainly clear?
In most sports (not all) there is an advantage to being born with a male muscular skeletal system. Even full castration does not change this advantage. Whereas being born with a female body is a disadvantage in male sports.
gogogo
Everyone is going to be whatever gives them the advantage if there are no questions asked.
diagonalslip
if it's okay at community level, why will 'elite' (read MONEY) sports be allowed to make their own rules? oh! answered my own question.
bang goes amateur and community sports....
Happy Day
Can you imagine if men start playing women's basketball? At least it will be a little more exciting.
Fighto!
Just have a third "open"/"other" category. It's not rocket science, Kiwis, and would work perfectly well. Otherwise there will be a big drop off in girls wanting to compete in sports in NZ - they will constantly get flogged by male-born athletes.
Allowing male-born athletes to compete in the female category is exactly the same as allowing doping.
Mr Kipling
Umbrella. .
Actually you only need two categories.
Women( real women) and others. Problem solved.
fxgai
This could be a red line.
A urinal has nothing to do with gender, it has to do with an appendage between the legs. Can we not cut off our ducks to spite our faces here please.
Algernon LaCroix
Let's see how far this goes, for entertainment's sake. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
NZ under woke icon Ardern is becoming a laughing stock for people able to think for themselves. Anyone wanna lay bets on what the next step down the staircase of crazy will bring?

Gender transitioning, particularly after puberty, does not completely alter the musculature of the transitioned person, specifically with reference to strength. Even 3 years after transitioning, transwomen retained more strength, lean body mass and muscle area than cis-women (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33648944/). Changes in muscle volume and knee extension strength were still skewed in favor of transwomen over cis-women (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/782557v1).
It appears that transitioning at least to transwoman does not have a complete transitioning effect on all aspects of the musculature, which would give the transwomen an advantage over cis-women in certain sports such as weight-lifting.
In addition, there appears to be a difference in strength recovery after exercise between men and women with males recovering faster (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21804429/), and whether a transwoman would retain this feature is unknown.

ok so if someone feels woman today can compete as woman and if same person will feel man tomorrow so can compete as man.
did i get it right?
NZ became very "interesting" place to be honest.
when i saw article abt special tax for cattle farmers/reason cows releasing too much of gas?/i thought may be not surprised more...but well Jacinda and co still looking for more "progressive" topics and solutions...
do you consider that decision of that NZ gov is correct click on +,if you believe not correct click on -

I feel your pain. If you are struggling to self-identify maybe an independent panel could judge. For love nor money I can't help you.
