A shock result for Liverpool. Newcastle were the better team. Liverpool were tired from playing 120 minutes last Tuesday against the French PSG in the European Champions League. The only trophy left is the league title. We'll settle for that.

Surprising result, missed the match will probably watch the highlights later.

Very groggy today. We did it! I was a six-month-old bairn when Newcastle last won a trophy in 1969.
They played brilliantly and barely gave Liverpool a sniff. After ten and then twenty minutes, I was delighted for Newcastle to have simply not thrown it away by conceding easy goals. As the match continued, it was clear the stage was set for a Toon win.
Tired legs or not, Liverpool had clear warnings of Dan Burn winning headers at corners. He won one that Bruno G flicked straight at the Liverpool keeper. It was poor for Slot to see this and not make adjustments. Burn hadn't scored for well over a year.
Liverpool will win the league, its the biggie, and deservedly so, but Plymouth, PSG and now this suggest things aren't quite as rosy as they could be. They remind me of Man U with Van Persie, one last hurrah and closer to an end than a new beginning. The contract situations with Trent, VVD and Salah aren't what you'd expect from a league winner.
Fighto!
56 is a very long time between drinks! Hats off to The Magpies and their outstanding gaffer Eddie Howe. Fully deserved. Legend Alan Shearer will be delighted.
Unlikely they will have to wait another 56 years to bring silverware to St. James' Park!

Well done. Liverpool just did not have the necessary verve.

It's a massive win against a big club. Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes and his troops have done it. Laying their hands on the Carabao Cup by overcoming the league leaders is no mean achievement. Diehard fans celebrated the decisive victory with tears of joy. Well done Magpies.
