There's actually a World Championship of American Football
But the US didn't participate in the early years because they'd be crushing the other national teams (and they did after they finally participated - winning every championship since)

American here. If you use your hands, it isn't "football".
Flag football is a completely different sport from American football. It is more about speed and accuracy, not bulk and strength. Plus, all the starting and stopping gets boring.
I'd rather see sports that can be played with smaller teams, at a faster pace, get into the Olympics. Goalcha (street handball) is fun to watch and fun to play.
And as much as I love platform and spring board diving, I think the synchronized versions aren't really exciting enough for Olympic sports and the number of swimming events should be halved.
