I saw a TV interview with Nahori Kawasumi, a Nadeshiko Japan member now playing in the US Women's pro soccer league with the Seattle Reign, where she said basically the same thing: She was surprised to see so many women who were married and who had kids continuing to have a career and being supported by their loved ones, letting them do what they love. She said in Japan, marriage means the end of a Japanese woman's career.
Then I saw the Japanese women's volleyball team and 9/10 roughly said they would like to date someone.
I don't know why the Japanese sports culture (or Japan in general?) believe living a celibant monk's lifestyle is the key to victory.

There must be countless young women who are tennis fans who would oblige.

I don't believe like that, especially for sportswomen. See Sakura Yokomine, a golf player, who is continuing her carrier along with her husband. I think it's because there are so many Japanese boys who don't know how to express their interests in girls that the chances of fatal encounters lessen. It is just my theory.

Harvey, I don't see why Kawasumi would say that, considering her teammate Oogimi is married. From volleyball, famous examples include Inoue (married) and Ootomo (has a kid), both members of the 2012 Olympics. There's also the famous speed skater (I forgot her name). Countless other examples as well.

Surely such an eligible batchelor should have no trouble finding a nice bird to step out with.

Dear god someone get this guy an adviser, not only on how to get laid but how not to sound desperate in front of the media. No one should be marrying someone dumb enough to shout such a thing out at a sporting match.
Probably something about losing too much of your "vital energy", har har.

Plus a bit of tooth whitening wouldn't hurt.

Slow down a tad, Kei-san ! Win a major first, take care of the body, all else will follow !

Go the Darvish route and try to land an Olympic wrestler five years your senior.

You realize he's been playing tennis his entire life right? Plenty of athletes are training constantly, and it's very difficult to have a personal life on the side. I know we all think they can get anyone they want, but plenty of celebrities and athletes are afraid of the attention and don't want to get judged for every person they go out with.
It was an honest statement - I'd be lonely too if all I did was eat, sleep, and play tennis.

@Torasan - It seems to be the fad ! Many sorts players are "with" partners older that themselves !
