In THIS case, we can all pray to be invaded by North Korea. Wowzers!

Wouldn't kick them out of bed but no thanks.

An army of beauties will come to Japan.

A platoon will return to NK.

The rest....AWOL

Haha!

Can we just stop this? Can anyone pretend that not a single one is not a prisoner to the NK regime, and that their family members wouldn't be severely punished if their actions displeased Kim? I've lived in totalitarian countries so am somewhat familiar with the mindset. This is moving an aquarium of human performers lower on the food chain than cetaceans to SK for propaganda purposes.

Don't let it happen.

With all the plastic surgery in the South, I'm wondering if anyone will ask why they look so different.

Malnutrition from infanthood.

Whether the SKs want to accept the NK delegation/team is a matter for them. The rest of the world (especially the USA and Japan) needs to butt out and shut up.

I would not attend an Olympic Game featuring a slave cheerleader team. Let the athletes decide where their morality lies.

The athletes will be there whatever you do or don't do.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Yes, they will. This is what they have spent four years training for. It's unfortunate for them that the Games could be tainted in this way.

An Chan Il, a defector researcher who runs the World Institute for North Korea Studies, said the cheerleaders are cherry-picked by the regime based on tough criteria.

"They must be over 163 centimetres tall and come from good families," An told AFP. "Those who play an instrument are from a band and others are mostly students at the elite Kim Il Sung University."

The Pyongyang elite. They are not malnourished.

featuring a slave cheerleader team.

I'm having a problem with your use of the word slave here. Are they sold at auction like we recently saw in Libya? Can they be bought and sold? Aren't they traveling to a foreign country? I know what you're saying but maybe you should be careful.

(Pyongyang) has emerged as a bubble of modern towers, state-of-the-art museums, science palaces, sporting venues, amusement parks and public gardens. Smiling school children are ever-present and mobile telephones are ubiquitous. There is even a dolphinarium and a spectacular new waterworld, not to mention a small number of coffee houses and nightclubs.

@Laguna

I'm wondering : are you upset only about North Korea's team ?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Poor girls, they are so cheery because they know they will be tortured to death if their smiles aren't big enough, what a farce of a country

They might as well be. I assume you know that "good family" refers to songbun -the NK version of aparheid. Still wanna smile and cheer about that? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songbun

More happy faces and bouncing bosoms from a place where one is killed if you don't enthuse for your evil government enough. Show me a country where you can't leave without permission and I will show you hell. Show me a country where you cannot disagree with the government for fear of life in an oubliette or rape/torture to death... And I give you the CCP. Er, I mean North Korea.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

nice.  I seem to remember lots of talk about Daddy Kim's harem.  Is Baby Kim also rumoured to be a Father to them all?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Those cheerleader girls have no choice - if the NK regime wants a beautiful girl to be a cheerleader, she has to become a cheerleader whether she likes it or not

Only a hundred years ago Europe was tearing itself apart. Look where we are now. Sure, NK has a nasty leader. Nobody disputes that.

But until y'all figure out how to choose your parents and country before you're born, why not open your arms and hearts to these ladies (no pun) and anyone else from that country lucky enough to be born in the elite?

Europe's history demonstrates how fast progress is possible (Brexit notwithstanding). I would not object to North Korean athletes; I do to cheer girls sent for none other than propagandic purposes by a murderous thugocracy.

Girls girls girls!!

evenif they aren't Japanese girls, still

loving it!

Does anyone actually think that these women have a choice in what they are doing? Do you think they can just quit if they decide they don't want the job anymore? Money doesn't have to change hands for someone to be a slave. Anybody else find it disturbing that Kim's wife was one of these women? I picture him walking through the group and picking out his wife, the chosen woman knowing what will happen to her family if she declines. Stop with this romanticizing of North Korea.

S.K. was almost abandoning this Olympic and NK rescued. S K can't depend on Japan participating One thing sure is USA is not sending Moore. Just VP and his wife.

McDonald's will fatten them up!

What, Donald's MacDonald's?

S Korea doesn't have to give up Winter Olympic now. S Korean people might be thinking reunification seriously instead of being treated as American territory.

Japan might urge N. Korea participate in Tokyo Olympic.
