Ohtani earning multiples more than the heads of the media companies. There are bound to be tussles over Dodgers media rights vs. showing to local talent.
One tabloid site showed two giant bouquets sent by Fuji TVs president and chairman, the latter who is in his 80s. They surmised that NPB is truly angry because the bouquets were moved to a hard to see corner of the lobby. Gotta love the corporate trolling using man-size flower display surrogates.

Should have said showing local pro league talent, or NPB.

They gotta keep Shohei on as much as possible. If you watch the live broadcast but listen to the English on the sub channel, the NHK camera is focused on one person. You'll see Ohtani sitting in the dugout, running on the field, etc - all over the telecast while the MLB broadcasters are analyzing plays. That is their reason for being. If Ohtani had not played those last two games, they might have had to find a contingency.

Only in Japan is this an issue, and it is an issue ALL THE TIME when live sporting events should be broadcast but the channels instead air repeats of certain victories Japan and its athletes are involved in. Showing the live, domestic series should have been a no-brainer, but... with the people in charge have no brains I guess it's more difficult than that. I hope they do not get their accreditation back.

It was the same 20 years ago when Ichiro was with Mariners and Hideki Matsui was with the Yankees. The NHK video feed would be locked on the Japanese player while the English commentary was doing analysis of something completely unrelated.
Nowadays I watch games on the MLB TV app, so it’s not a issue.
