Wow, 26 home runs and it isn't even July yet, the guy is on fire.

they keep saying he’s a two way hitter, but exactly how many of his HR’s has come from batting right handed ?

Ohtani is truly on fire. A revelation as a power hitter this season, worked hard building his muscles

and it has paid off big time.

Never heard anybody say that. Aren't you mistaken ?. He is plays as a batter and also a pitcher

something no other player does.

I think you mean he is a two way PLAYER, in that he both hits and pitches. A switch hitter would be someone who can hit both left and right handed.

He is also the first pitcher invited to the home run derby.

So ‘two way sensation’ is referring to his batting & pitching - got it

Now the Yankees will try to co-opt him to New York. Isn't that what the Yankees do? Buy the best team? Win by the money is no object tactic.

Awesome player.

What he has achieved, especially after serious surgery is mind-boggling.

Seems like a very nice dude as well.

Good luck to him,I say.

If he can stay healthy, he is on track to get into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

NY Yankees is no longer the only ultra-rich team in MLB - they were ahead of their time when they owned their own local TV network that earned them a lot of money. Now many teams own their own local networks too, so many teams are now ultra-rich, so no one team can afford everybody anymore - especially since there's no cap on players' salaries.

In fact, the defending champion LA Dodgers (and went to the World Series in 3 of the last 4 years) has by far the largest opening day payroll - 2021 MLB Payroll List:

1.) Los Angeles Dodgers ($249 mil)

2.) New York Yankees ($200.5 mil)

3.) Houston Astros ($192.3 mil)

4.) New York Mets ($190.7 mil)

5.) Los Angeles Angels ($182.3 mil)

6.) Philadelphia Phillies ($182.2 mil)

7.) Boston Red Sox ($175 mil)

8.) San Diego Padres ($173 mil)

9.) Washington Nationals ($170.4 mil)

10.) St. Louis Cardinals ($164.5 mil)

The Yankees at #2, while Ohtani's LA Angels at #5 (but only $18 million behind the Yanks)

Maybe you don't really know about this sport. You cannot 'co-opt' a player or 'buy the best team' and the Yankees offered a nice package but he brushed it aside because he didn't want to play on the East Coast. He may have wilted under the pressure anyway. Now he's stuck, along with THE best player in MLB, Mike Trout, on a perennially mediocre team.

Way to go Shohei!
