Watched this was incredible. Rare to see anyone pitch at this speed with this much control.
Happy Day
Keep it going Shohei!

It's a shame that a team with two of the best players in MLB, even though one is injured, can barely muster a .500 record and more than likely unable to get into the post season!
If the team doesnt get a better supporting cast, the Angels may end up saying good bye to him!
rainyday
Good for him!

The kid is something. Ichiro was the greatest but he wasn't a two way player. I'd be interested to see if ohtani can keep it up for another 20 years like ichiro did.
Spitfire
What a season he is having and what an athlete he is.

He has played outfield a couple times, but the management aren’t going to overwork him and risk injury, when his batting and pitching is what’s making the money.

It was 12 years for $430 Million! And with Mike Rendon's contract, along with Otani probably looking at getting a $50 MILLION a year contract they will be potentially paying nearly $120 Million a year for just 3 players.
Not a healthy proposition for any team.

Dominating on the mound is an Angel.

If you throw him a breaking ball, be DAMN sure it breaks. Today's pitch threw an 89 mph slider that didn't slide and Shohei rarely misses.

The lads were talking baseball at work. Ohtani came up in the conversation and one of the dudes queried, "Kare Nihonjin ja nai?". That made me chuckle a wee bit.

I'm a bit disappointed that he can't play in the outfield as well!
GdTokyo
The pitcher threw a slider that did not "slide".....
GONE!.
I thought the ball was going to explode like those trick golf balls.

Everyone said the same thing about Mike Trout before he signed a lifetime contract with no trade clause.

He is earning the accolades, good for him, he will be an inspiration for Japanese baseball players for generations to come

He's the man!

Just like Ichiro. But even better, as he is not aloof and doesnt come across as an arrogant arse, like Ichiro did. Japanese people idolized Ichiro because of his "work ethic" but conveniently left out the fact that he doesnt give a crap about anyone but himself.
Otani is an outgoing, humble, but accessible person and if Japanese kids would use that too as an inspiration I think that would be great as well!

You dont watch too much MLB do you? There are plenty of pitchers that throw at his speed or higher, and with better control. I'll name one, Jason deGrom. If you need more names, just ask!

On a YakyuNews.com interview Hotani said he was excited about playing against the Taliban In the upcoming summer Olympics. Believes it will be a challenge with their strong focus on accomplishing things, but rewarding as well. Good luck Ohtani
