Like so many Japanese pitchers who were overworked by the archaic managers here, they tend to break down physically not long after they reach the majors. Looks like Otani might have that same misfortune

He's a hometown boy for me. He was in my son's class during junior high school. A good kid (I still see my son as a kid, too). I wish him well.

This is an asterisk season anyways so no problem if he struggled.At least he got work in and can continue to do so in the offseason.

I'm confused by the story somehow linking the COVID delay to Ohtani's troubles. Per the story:
He had Tommy John surgery, and was cleared to throw before the original spring training... and then because of the delay had more months to rehabilitate, strengthen his arm, etc.
So how is COVID an excuse for his lack of preparation to pitch or hit? He could have been rehabbing the entire time, and come into the shortened pre-season in good throwing shape. Instead, he re-injured himself... again.
Sounds like someone's looking for an excuse and doesn't want to admit it.
