Wow! So does any one know why they split? Sounds nasty!

Whatever the reason, she's still No.1 and skating to James Bond music fits her like a glove. Dun da la dan da da da dun da la dan da da da dah da- dah da dah!

Well that is the end of her I think. Brian is well respected in the coaching world and I doubt many folks will want to work with her after her unprofessional behaviour with the split. She should have had the balls to tell him herself. Brian made her and I doubt there is a better coach out there for her. Perhaps she's take Miki's? He seems to have a thing for young skaters and Miki is getting old.

She overwhelmed the competition at the 2008 Winter Olympics in Vancouver

2010, not 2008.

She has plenty of money to do whatever she wants now. Maybe she didn't like sharing her coach. Traveling to Canada <--> Korea. Past injuries.

At some point the student will become the teacher also.

You must make a decision and stick to it. -All the bickering isn't necessary.

That's too bad.

Kudos for both. But don't blame Orser if kim cannot find better coach than him.Now that Kim is an Olympic champion, she is smart enough to work things out her own way.Maybe Kim has some chutzpa so she thinks she is at the top of the world. As a fellow Korean myself, Kim should be commended for her gold medal and Orser should take a break after his hard work.

Yeah, nobody's going to want to work with the reigning Olympic champion.

The Korean media is reporting that Orser initiated the break up, whereas Orser is saying that he was sacked. Hmmm, who should I believe?

for those saying orser made her, she already did triples and beautiful programs way before he took her to be her student, she is gifted skater not because he made her that way. Also here's a neutral description of the incident:

Yes, for anyone who's tried to up their level of expertise at any discipline, a change of teachers is not unusual. TW with Butch harmon, Hank Haney, and now.... Naysayers always look back to the golden days and say, "he/she should have stayed with A/B/C of the golden days." But life goes on. There are 2nd and 3rd stages of a career.

Orser was fired by the Mother on August 2nd and Kim Yu-na wasn't even in the room. In a followup meeting she didn't broach the topic herself, the ideal time, and was noted as crying. So now then this comes out from her. Orser is a class act and her actions have only assured her downfall.

Orser had to learn of his changed status through media, so Kim Yu-na is being a hypocrite. Doesn't matter, he's on to two other skaters.

Kim Yuna said decision was hers in her blog, and she gives the last word on every decision.

This is a rather bizarre, and very disappointing situation, all around. The Korean Cyworld site is making a lot of serious accusations against Orser and that it was his fault, and also claiming that Mao Asada has made a HUGE offer to secure Orser as her next coach, but a lot of other foreign papers are saying differently.

If Asada has indeed made a pitch to get him I find that the most disturbing point of all this, particularly if he accepts.

From Yu-Na's side: While the athlete obviously is the person who performs, a good coach can make or break that person. Orser and Kim seemed to have a relationship that went beyond simply coach and athlete (and I don't mean anything physical), and the friendship they shared is definitely a part of what helped her do so well, gain confidence, etc.

From Orser's: If what he says is true -- that he doesn't know the reason why he was cut -- then I feel sorry for him. He worked his heart out for both Yu-Na and himself, and those yielded very good results in all respects. To therefore cut him is a major shame. On the other hand, if indeed it was something he did, then he blew it, and THAT is a major shame. I know that Orser got screwed by the Korean government when it came to payment for medals (since he was a foreign coach he didn't get the cash prize awarded to coaches of gold medal athletes, much to the chagrin even of the Korean people), but I pray that if the Asada rumor is correct he doesn't take it out of merely money, especially given how much Yu-Na getting the gold meant to him personally (since he lost it in a similar rivalry himself way back when).

From Asada's side: Frankly I'm sickened if the rumours are true, for a couple of reasons. One, while I realize he's an excellent coach and an asset, Asada wanting the coach that gave her rival the gold seems to be telling me that she feels she lacks the ability to get it herself -- that it's almost entirely external locus of control. Second, it would seem that she wants more to stick it to her rival than improve her career -- there are plenty of great coaches out there. Beyond that, it's just weird.

That's, of course, if it's true.

moshiso7: "Kim Yuna said decision was hers in her blog, and she gives the last word on every decision."

Obviously not, if her mother was the one who said it to Brian.

It's sad to see such a great pairing come to childish bickering of he said/ she said. Orser claims he doesn't know why Kim fired him, while Kim's agents and mom says he does know. Kim claims he lied to the media about their split, while Orser is claiming the same thing about her. Somewhere in all the this is the truth, which we may or may not find out about. It's probably best we don't.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Kim's mom (who is known to be overly protective) had some role in this escalating to the point it has become. I'm sure that neither Kim Yu-na, nor Brian Orser wanted this split to become ugly, but unfortunately third parties (agents, media, etc.) made it so.

It kind of reminds me of Lebron James (of the NBA) and how his handlers have run his whole career and seemingly make business decisions for him. Just glad they didn't air a half-hour show like Lebron did to announce "the Decision".

Maybe mom found out about the part where her relationship with Orser has been "Awkward" over the past months and told him "keep your Canuk mitts off my million dollar baby"

Am I seeing things? it's what she herself wrote with her own hands in her blog.

You also said Korean media is reporting that Mao's agency called orser which is untrue. He was the one who said was called by Mao's agency in an email he sent to Yuna but later denied in an interview in Canadian TV.
