I love this young woman's attitude, and loathe that of the media. The words 'defeat' and 'loss' and the people who already counted her golds in the 'record medal haul' the JOC has predicted, etc., when she has gone above and beyond and is still doing extremely well. These 'losses' will only add to her competitive edge and serve to sharpen her skills. How do you think the others won these last two games? They were striving to beat her (on top, of course, of their skill).

Not a big deal. If you are looking at consistency she`s easily at the top right now. Incredible skill and only 17.

I go along with smithinjapan. Her attitude & skill are top notch. The silly choice of words by the media, like 'defeat', only shine light on the poor quality of their writing.

Second is not a massive defeat by any means....

So the media is going after her already? Lord they build them up and rip them down. She's a sweet 17 year old. Leave her alone.

Leave her alone. She'll either win, or lose to someone who performs better. She's only seventeen....

And you know what, Japan? If she does finish with a silver medal, well, silver ain't that shabby a color at all. Nor is bronze. First, second, or third place in the world is a n impressive feat by any measure.

Does anyone know how you get in touch with Olympic athletes? Whenever I read articles like this one, where accomplishments as admirable as finishing second in the world in a competition, are twisted into "defeats", and particularly when the athlete is very young, I just want to send them a short postcard (which they might read in the future and be cheered up by) saying something about what a great job they're doing and how not all of us in the audience equate anything other than a gold medal as "losing".
The media just chews these athletes up and spits them out. Competing at the top level is tough enough!

will the media keep their mouth shut? The girl is doing fine and is very competitive. I hate the media sometimes for making superwoman out of of her. How sick.
Let her enjoy and have fun. She is still on top of the world in terms of skii jumping. Title should say, she won silver not defeat. May the writer of this article try jumping a 4 feet slope and down into the crevice and freeze.
