Great news in general. Coventry is from decent Zimbabwe. She will support the return of decent Russia to the Olympic podium and end that arbitrary, discriminatory nasty policy once and for all.
stickman1760
She won’t support the return of Russia, that would be insane.
maybe Russian athletes competing under a neutral flag possibly but to allow Russia back she would lose respect of the civilized world. As for Trump, he will promptly declare she is not his type.
i don’t envy her having to deal with the macho man babies Putin and Trump.

Article doesn't mention her main competitor, who came in a surprise and embarrassing third, but it was Sebastian Coe - who has spearheaded anti-Russian/Belarus discrimination in the Olympics. He also instigated an abandonment of Olympic Neutrality, citing his "personal feelings", contradicting the Charter.
This is another manifestation of the world not being on the 'collective west's side'. Who is this 'civilised world'? What does that make the rest?
Her decent country has been unfairly sanctioned to the rafters by certain govts of this 'world' you refer to. Certain leaders have openly applauded her victory.

Trump doesnt "own " the Olympics....could this sporting event be bigger than MAGA ?
I'veSeenFootage
Because all the previous presidents took their job seriously and didn't want to waste millions of taxpayer dollars on a trip to the Superbowl.

LA is sport heaven. I volunteered at the '84 Olympics, which were splendid - maybe the most successful ever (they turned a profit). I'm sure '28 will be equally successful.

Yeah, turning a profitable OG is a pretty rare feat for sure.

I agree. Fact, the LA Olympics turned a profit then the last few Olympic games. Part of the reason they turned a profit was that they used their already built venues. They just did some upgrades. They are still in use today. The games were welcoming. I attended one as a kid then. I'm glad to see a new IOC President. I didn't like Bach one bit.

The world is so much against russia they passed a resolution 93 to 18 even with Trump voting against it.
Those that don't savagely invade their neighbors.
Take a guess.

President Trump will not tolerate been dictated to.
The 2028 LA Olympic games will have one focus, USA, an overriding demand for Los Angeles to financially profit.
I have no doubt this will be the bottom line.

I wonder if 2028 Olympics can make profit. It is a very big challenge.

Kirsty Coventry candidacy is secondary here, as is whether Kirsty Coventry subsequent successful election to be President of the International Olympic Committee.
The costs of hosting a Olympic games is outrageous.
Obscene
Cost of the of Tokyo, Japan is $13 billion (1.4 trillion yen), plus "security" taking the final total to over $20 billion.
The Olympic Games either find a permanent base, I suggest return to its birthplace, Athens, Greece.
Or this sporting event is structurally, forcibly removed for IOC control.
Kirsty Coventry role must be to heed and listen, effect unprecedented change.
Bach weaponised a "lobbyist" methodology of his own design, not dissimilar to the secretive FIFA era of Sepp Blatter to maintain his "legacy".
Do you think for a moment this will not be lost on President Trump?
The question could well fall in the lap of VP JD Vance

Silvafan,
The costs for thosting are unsustainable, it is offensive for many 16 days of running quickly, jumping, throwing round or heavy objects, swimming, etc etc.
Japan spend a huge amount of taxpayers money,
Its bonkers deranged looney tunes.Consider this Japan cost contribution 2023 hosting US forces in Japan was around $8 billion..., $7,835,704,695.00
"$13 billion (1.4 trillion yen), plus "security" taking the final total to over $20 billion"
To host the J Olympics is insanity.
President Trump is not going to run with that, is he?
The French government is being curlish about publishing the numbers 2024 games

Trump will try to make the Olympics about him like Hitler did! He believes that his really "manly" despite having to cheat at golf and dodging the draft. He is only tough with women aand especially minority women!
He will try to leverage his position to make money and demand people show public loyalty for his ego, once again like Hitler.

Whatever President Trump long term political objectives. President Trump will not countenance spending a single dollar without, LA/USA profiting, before the IOC.
ΙΟC's new president Coventry sits-down with President Trump, a firm understanding of Presidents Trump's requirements is essential, should be researched understood.
Or prepare for a PR disaster.

It is also worth politically factoring in the US Presidential elections November 7, 2028.
This could be a determining consideration, plus the economic, global security environment.
How many days are we into President Trump administration?
Look at the upheaval?
So who know what could face the LA 2028 games.

Trump, in just two months, has made it clear that he is trying to destroy America. The safest thing now would be to move the 2028 Olympics out of the US, unless one wants to see more international travelers arrested and put in chains.
theFu
Everyone wants the Games to be successful. Trump has very little to do with that. The Feds are barely involved, except granting visas for coaches and athletes.
California and SoCal will have 1000x more impact on the success of the Games. Mayors and the Governator will matter, that's certain, not Trump.
Every time Trump is at a major sports event, he's just showing his incompetence.
428 of the 1,461 days of Trump's first Presidential term were spent playing golf. If golf is supposed to keep him calm, it isn't working.
