The result of an election per se should't influence the Olympics. I mean the Olympics are already about as corrupt as it's possible to get anyway. The IOC rivals FIFA for being dirty.

The problems start when a country starts openly acting in a way that contravenes the (admittedly rather hypocritical) standards that the Olympics holds itself to.

That's why I'm on board with Russian athletes being forced to compete under a neutral flag. It would be harsh to completely ban them, as they may (as individuals) be against Putin and his invasion of Ukraine, but at the same time it sends a message that "your country is not officially recognised here". Seems like a fair compromise.

As for claiming the Olympics are above politics, that's just a straight up lie.

Hopefully Russia can compete under their flag, making the competition truly world class that subscribes to the highest levels of sportsmanship and decency. Things should be wrapped up by then and resolved by then. And there is always a time to move forward and not get wrapped up about the past.

Your euphemism for "Russia has complete control of Ukraine, and it only took them 7 years".

Gold, silver and credit card payments are the main focus of the Olympic Games, along with TV sponsorship.

I don't usually agree with you, but think you're on the money here.

The centennial of facist olympics to be held 8 years early.

I think that says more about the Olympics than it does about anything else!

Just imagine China winning LA Olympics..

Not far from reality..

There's always and will always be politics in the Olympics. It has since the beginning. For example, most people in Japan (especially Tokyo) didn't want the Olympics, but the big guy bullied his way to the board to go ahead with the games. Russia was banned from the Olympics, so the Russians gave themselves a different name to compete. Yup, there's always politics.

Hey! Trump apparently (I still don't believe it) won the election so anything is possible.

I suggest to give special medals to UA even they will not compete...

Donald Trump to the U.S. presidency will have no bearing on preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, organizers

Trump having 'no bearing' is pretty hard for me to believe, Trump now has the leverage to involve himself in any event in which he thinks he might profit in some way. There's a lot of time between now and the next games, and I foresee Trump and his cartel barging in wherever they think they might find a way to benefit themselves and the Trump cult/cartel. The graft and corruption long associated with the Olympics will be a magnet for someone like Trump's who's spent his long, long life whole life finangling ways to make a buck hawking things like Chinese bibles, sneakers, NFTs and T-shirts.

Not being as woke as the Paris Olympics would be a major accomplishment and might bring back spectators to the events.

At least there should be no men in women sports and no women in men sports. That is absolutely the very least Los Angeles should do.

Sure, now that US is hosting the next Olympics, everything is 'above politics'. A shame they didn't think like that during the last summer and winter Olympics.

They should win given their population and the fact that you're always touting them being the future.
