According to some, Japan is better off financially if they win the Olympics and not actually host them. See the economic benefits from the most recent world cup.

Bribes weren't big enough?

Maybe they're waiting for a last-minute bid from Qatar.

They just should cancel their privileged lifestyle and can also do their sports at local installments or stadiums and then only video mail the results, so that the global winner can be decided at the Olympics central. Businesses everywhere on the globe also function just this way for centuries, locally produced and only the resulting products delivered outside. No need for building copies of all thinkable businesses and companies every four years in another country only to see them what is possible to be globally produced and sold.

Have the Winter Olympics in the same place every four years. The same facilities can then be used. That means no more costly meetings and discussions (and bribes?) Problems solved. The same for the Summer Olympics.

Buua, I used to be of the same opinion - but showcasing different countries is part of the Olympics' allure.

A key point is more emphasis on existing infrastructure. LA28, for example, won't have to build anything: the athletics facilities already exist from two previous games, and athletes will be housed in nearby student dormitories.

Another question: will Vancouver still have snow by 2030? Global warming is a valid criterion.

Tokyo had the existing facilities, as well. It didn't stop them from spending ridiculous sums of money building new, unnecessary ones.

In no world should Japan be getting another Olympic Games for the foreseeable future.

Corruptness goes hand in hand with these games and with Dentsu controlling everything it is a perfect storm leaving only the plebs to pick up the tab.

How about building a site at the South Pole?

Eh? Climate change? Well, IOC having any Olympics at all will involve an increase in C02, so best call it off.

That's the only way to remain non hypocritical.

You meant Saudi Arabia, which already won the bid for the 2029 Asian Winter Games

Fresh off the digital press five hours ago.

If allowed to speculate, my guess is that Sapporo is already the preferred candidate, but they don't want to announce it while there are corruption clouds hanging around after Tokyo. So they are pushing back the announcement to let the clouds blow away. The Guardian article says Vancouver is a nonstarter.

fwiw, there is no ski hill on Hokkaido with enough vert gain for an FIS Downhill or Giant Slalom. There is no bobsleigh track in Japan, with the Nagano one now derelict. The idea of an eco games is a joke.

Any bid made by Japan has to be multiplied by at least 3 to 4 times the amount quoted, if not more. Wait, Japan should be automatically excluded from being allowed to bid, because of the scandal going on now.

Sadly both Summer and Winter Olympics have become an embarrassing quagmire of corruption stemming directly from the utterly corrupt IOC. If and I emphasise if the Olympics are to survive there needs to be a cleansing of the Augean stables at both international and local levels with those responsible for the corruption serving serious gaol time as a deterrent.

As this is unlikely I question whether the Olympics have much further to run.

We should cease all of these events - the amount of huffing and puffing the Athletes make during them, must surely have an adverse effect upon Global Climate, more so than Cows that Fart.

Err no, they should still do it, only do it better. Existing stadia, existing hotels, fewer sports, fewer hangers on.

If there is no canoeing facility, don't have canoeing. Don't build a concrete river that will be derelict three years later. Don't spend hundreds of millions on a swimming stadium next door to your existing swimming stadium, which is what happened in Tokyo.

This is known as "The Squeeze".

Got to give the countries more time to set up better bribes and perks to the Committee. Or maybe that's just for Japan.

Either a giant cruise ship or small cruise ship fleet could host the Olympics, going into the respective winning country's port, or, since established in Switzerland, Switzerland could host permanently.

You're so optimistic. Commended. I just don't share the same positivity. The IOC is about on par with FIFA unfortunately. Anyway better to get off the bread and circuses and solve some of the real issues we face. That is where the billions should go.

And put the facilities in Norway where the winter games started and where we should still have snow at least for the new couple of decades.

Have the Winter Olympics in the same place every four years. The same facilities can then be used.

Make use of AI and virtual reality, games could be contested by athletes from the comfort of their own homes, no need for expensive facilities and travelers spreading disease.

Weatherwise by the look of things this year, the IOC may have to schedule future Winter Olympics within either the Arctic or, the Antarctic Circles. White Christmases have become the stuff of dreams. I can predict this year's will be green! And next year's will be brown!!

There is one way to stop the protest.

Let the rich countries bid but they have to develop the facilities in poor developing countries.

Sport is just about who comes up with the biggest bribe-disgusting!
