This is what Japanese sports teachers call “ coaching “ . There is no teaching , no correcting wrong running styles. Only the “ last man standing “ system. Overtraining, bullying, threatening and abusing young people.

Every Japanese pitcher gets destroyed in highschool, sacrificed for the “success” of the highschool “ coach” Ohtani the latest example.

Did no one ever ask the question why most Japanese athletes retire so early ? Why do Japanese runners have this ugly running ( non) styles? Because they never get corrected in childhood.

Why did Nishikori get a career ending wrist injury ? A tennis players natural week points are shoulder and elbow, not wrists.

There is an endless list. Will it change ? Not before an entire generation in a wide range of coaches gets send abroad for years to learn the coaching expertise.

JOC: We would like your input and approval, please.

IOC: Not until you eliminate this abuse. We have cases of abuse of children in sports and it is unacceptable.

JOC: It's very regrettable that you heard this, so we will make our utmost efforts to be more transparent. And we have already made moves in Japan, like in the case of a few coaches, to reduce the incidents.

IOC: 'Reduction' is unacceptable. We want it outlawed. And in some cases we have heard you still employ the abusive coaches because they got good results for the teams.

JOC: So sorry, but you understand all athletes want to do well and the nation wants them to. But, we will make further rules, to be implemented by the schools of their own volition. If people are caught breaking the rules, we will sternly talk to them, including the children.

IOC: I'm sorry, but that's not enough. You must expand the laws to cover this abuse.

JOC: So sorry... but we cannot force people to act against their own will.

IOC: Child abuse is part of the law, we just want you to enforce it. You don't seem to want to take responsibility for lack of enforcement, and schools look to you for guidance, as do communities.

JOC: We don't need your input, nor your acceptance. Who asked you?

IOC: You did. You need it for the Games.

JOC: (cursing) oh, yes, of course. So sorry. We will form a panel to discuss thinking about the issue.

IOC: What will you discuss.

JOC: I'm afraid we can't tell you that, but we promise to be transparent.
