Me and my jaded gaijin friends at the pub chuckled over the heat scenario way back when Tokyo's bid was announced. We're a lot smarter and knowledgeable than the "experts," who were ignorant of the problem until very recently.

Now, now they admit what everybody knew, years ago! What is it that was so obvious to everyone but not the suited up decision makers? Was a part of their brain removed at a prestigious university? Yes please come to Japan experience our deathly heat. See what happens when twats are elected.

Nothing gets past this lot.

Has the idea of having shops open their doors while having the ACs on full blast been shelved?

Don't worry. The President of the United States has assured us that climate always changes, and there's nothing we can do about it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’m sure there will be many new records set at the Tokyo 2020 games. They will include, the amount of spectators hospitalized for heat exhaustion and the amount of athletes that died in competition.

I'm happy when June or September is tolerable, which is rare enough. July and August have been godawful for every one of my 10 year. As in 60 days of guaranteed misery. I can stand the heat but my god, the humidity is like walking about in a mist of warm saliva.

"With many days of mild and sunny weather, this period provides an ideal climate for athletes to perform at their best"

Let us all bow our heads for a minutes silence in remembrance of the IOC fools who bought this lie.

@Daniel Donaldson

Do hats exist though? Because if you don't believe in hats, maybe they won't exist anymore either

Climate change deniers are off topic. The article is about the admission of extreme weather being a major issue

Money trumps everything like the 1964 solution of holding the games in October. They won't be moved. Climate change will continue unabated

If they get lucky and cooler weather for those weeks that's great but not really a plan. As a contingency a lot of events are indoors already and they might see if they can increase that. Also holding those events later at night

"Extreme weather" a "major issue", a bolt from the blue! bwa ha hahahaha.....!!!

Actually that is simply an excuse to cover for the fact that every summer in Tokyo is extremely hot, and it would always be a major issue to even consider holding the Olympics at that time. Granted it was nudging records, luckily for the organizers who needed something to cling onto, but it's not as if last summer was suddenly so surprisingly hot that for once people could not go outdoors.

The biggest surprise would be if Tokyo had a tolerable or bearable summer for once. My guess is that ain't going to happen this century.

This just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen...

The larger issue is that both interest in watching and hosting Olympic Games is on the wane ...

Around the 15 year mark, I actually started to feel ok with it. Still unpleasant, but not nearly as uncomfortable as it had been. I don't know if others go through this as well, or if it was just me, but I definitely do better in Japanese summers than I did for the first number of years I was in Japan.

I'll take your word for it though I hope to be returning home around that time. Sounds pretty zen to me.

Global Warming is a hoax, perpetrated by unemployed scientists who are desperate for fame and money, propagated by low information, low intelligence sheep whose desire to belong to a cause outweighs their desire for rational thought.
