Isn't Russia banned from international competitions for doping in most sports?
Their war in Ukraine is another cause for banning. If their athletes want to compete, they can relocate to other countries, assuming they can get out of Russia before the Iron Curtain goes back up.
Sure, it shouldn't be necessary and wouldn't be any issue if the Russian govt didn't attack and invade their neighbor. It isn't like the Ukrainian govt killed 3000 Russians in Russia.
Mr Kipling
Did the Olympic organization also force other competitors to condemn their countries dubious invasions before competing? I don't think so. Is the Olympics now part of the global anti-Russia propaganda campaign?

as we all know, the IOC can do whatever it wants.
what it should really do is strictly enforce the doping bans that were justifiably put on Russia for the state sponsored doping.
kick the athletes out for that and then stay out of politics. As it is now the Russians can compete as neutral whatever that means
Nemo
We could just ban them for practicing doping as state policy.
That the country's behavior internationally is beyond the pail (or is it "pale"?) is just the icing on the cake.

Annoying eh? Of course not as annoying as having your country invaded, annexed and your people butchered.
As usual, you chose the wrong side, live with it.
Mr Kipling
Clippity...
I'm sure it was for the Iraqis and Afghanis . Why no ban on US or UK athletes?
I'd be fine with a blanket rule. No Olympics if your country is in conflict.
ClippetyClop
Well for a start they were never involved in state sponsored doping on an enormous level
I guess it shows the absolute repugnance that the civilized world feels towards Russian butchery.
Not you of course. You seem to quite enjoy it.
Get out of Ukraine and we might let you play with us again.

I still think that wouldn’t build up anywhere near enough credit to let them back in.
The dishonesty over the industrial scale doping was astounding.
It’s going to be a long road back to respect and credibility.
Read the apologists for Putin’s aggression. A vacuum of self-respect and credibility.
Mr Kipling
Well for a start they were never involved in state sponsored doping on an enormous level.
True, not state sponsored but the level of doping is much higher in many countries.
And why no ban on US for Iraqi invasion? Half a million Iraqis.... Russia is nowhere near 2% of that number ... Yet.
ClippetyClop
Wake up Mr K. It was state sponsored. This isn't even in doubt.
Nonsense, absolute rubbish. Name one.
According to your earlier post 'No Olympics if your country is in conflict.' This would have also seen the Iraqi athletes banned, and also Ukrainian ones, for the crime of being invaded.
I know you aren't allowed to say 'invasion' or 'war' under Putin's rules, but the same applies to your Super-Duper Special Military Operation (I'm afraid it is very much an invasion and a war).
Mr Kipling
Jamaica and every other Caribbean territory.
The Ukraine conflict didn't start in 2022.
ClippetyClop
Not even close to the state-sponsored doping of the Russian athletes. You should read up on it.
The 'W' word still hard for you say, isn't it? But you are right, Russia's invasion started in 2014. Damn I said invasion, my bad.
But with the latest land grab, coupled with the mass graves, targetting of civilians, rapes, torture, looting, illegal referendums and threats of nuclear war then maybe, just maybe the world is starting to tire of Russia's revolting foreign policies.
Whether it be politics or sport, the world is better off without Russia in it for a while.
