What is with the obsession of east Asian nations continually wanting to host this horrible, corrupt circus?

Bizarre.

Who will be best in bribing the IOC officials?

Please no, the financial records of the last Winter Olympics are still smoldering.

What is with the obsession of east Asian nations continually wanting to host this horrible, corrupt circus?

For historical reasons. They want to be seen as being accepted by the elite club of Wetstern powers. It puts them in an equal footing and brings prestige and recognition. Not to mention how hosting the Olympics legitimizes nationaliistic policies and allows manipulation and control and military mobilisation of the poplace in the name of sport, 1930s style. I'm serious.

The first nations in Vancouver want to bring the Olympics back to Vancouver/Whistler in 2030. I think they also would have a good chance of getting them considering most of the buildings are still there from 2010 winter Olympics.

Why steal public Japanese funds just one time, when they can do it again?

I’m talking about both the LDP as well as the IOC.

They did it once, and got away with it, might as well do it a second time.

from a friend who lives in Sapporo, about 3 weeks ago:

Well it appears almost certain the Winter Olympics will be held here in 2030, as heartily desired by all of Sapporo’s citizens, as well you can imagine. News programs have been running interviews with locals who have only positive things to say and features, no doubt in an effort to soften up any remaining opposition, on topics such as the 1972 Games and the restaurant at the Okurayama ski jump site, which recently has thoughtfully added to its menu some items from the 1972 meals served to athletes housed around Sapporo for those Games. NHK also had an interview with the woman who was the last head of the cursed Tokyo Olympics Committee, gabbing on about how wonderful it would be to have the Winter Games in Sapporo again, and my personal favorite, an internet interview with Mr. Bach, head of the IOC, saying how he is “really interested” in having Sapporo “bid” for the Games (which I took to mean “We’ll give it to you, Sapporo, if you pay the Committee the amount we want.”)

Color me not surprised.
