This will certainly be the 'asterisk' games, where medals and records will be noted to have been achieved under unusual circumstances.

So they’ll all be arriving and leaving at the same time.

Err but yesterday's story said

In addition, the government, in order to attract large numbers of foreign visitors, will place practically no restraints on their movements in Japan. It will not insist that the arrivals be vaccinated as a condition for entry, nor will it place any controls on their movements, such as usage of public transport.

This all strikes me as very confused. Athletes are in and out in seven days, but others are to be "attracted" to come.

It defeats the entire purpose and mission statement of the IOC and the Games.

The Olympic village’s purpose is for athletes to fraternise and less poetic close encounters, won’t happen this time.

so cynical

Jump on the plane, arrive in virus infected Japan in 38-40 degrees temperature with jet lag, train for two days, no sightseeing or celebrations, then back on the plane the next day to spread the virus back to their home countries.

this will be interesting.

I am utterly sick of these daily Olympic puff pieces, offering pie in the sky ‘solutions’ to a deadly pandemic, all so a few people can have a big pay day. Sick of it.

Come to Japan the night before you compete. Leave the country the hour your race has finished.

OK, you masters of propaganda and logic: Why any such restrictions when the games are allegedly totally safe? lol

The IOC hasn't heard of jet lag.
