The article just needed to say "the tax payers of Japan". That's it. All the other entities are sponging off of them.

Do the simple math and figure out how much each person in Japan, including children will pay for this farce. Sapporo can pay out of their own pockets if they want to host another joke party.

I still think it could have been moved the following year - this year. Nothing is inflexible. If others can’t participate because they got older - I still believe everyone should have just moved things forward.

Why keep bringing this up? We all know that the Tokyo Olympics was one the biggest waste of taxpayers' money and that Japan got almost nothing back from it because the entire country was on lockdown when they held it.

Most likely that's Shinzo "Everything is under control" Abe. You'd have to be simple beyond belief to give any credence to these numbers, especially after the Organizing Committee burned the accounts books the instant Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics finished, and all the accounts for the 2020 Bid Committee were deleted the moment Tokyo won. And let's not mention the sad suicide of Yasushi Moriya, the head of the JOC's accounting department.

The number is about 10.5 billion USD, which seems unlikely given the totals announced around the time of the Games. It would not be the first time Japanese have produced a "total" that does not include everything. The official cost of the Fukushima disaster is also highly dubious, to give one example.

I reckon the real figure will be at least double.

As is, 10.5 billion USD between 125 million people is just under 100USD each so yes, about 11,000 yen per capita. I'm using dollars because smaller numbers are easier for non-astrophysists like myself.

I am amazed that these sorts of projects come in 3 or 4 times over the original estimate/budget, its about time the organisers held the companies to the original quote, is it there mantra to think, lets go in cheap, then shaft them half way through the project saying weve underestimated the goods and we need more money, knowing that the goverment or local authorities need the project to go ahead, and be compleated on time? if we the general public, asked a builder to come and build a extention or patio, gave you a price, then half way through, said the price has just jumped up by 4 times the original quote, you would just laugh at him,

Meh. The SoFi stadium in Los Angeles, for example, which will host the LA Olympics, cost over $5.5 billion USD alone. Just the stadium! Not a fan of the Olympics, but I thought they had spent much more than this...
