I was watching but didn't see the race on TV. BBC, CNN, NHK...nothing. Just headlines on the bottom of the screen announcing the record and talking heads talking about it. Anyone know why? Isn't this the biggest event of the Games?

It was shown live on Asahi, I watched it and Bolt ran a great race!

I saw it live. Thank the lord for my insomnia!

It's amazing how fast he can run despite being born with scoliosis.

Asahi, eh? Dang! I wish the other broadcasters said "We don't be showing the race" to give me time to flick channels. Because the event was over, like in a flash.

This dude is amazing. Go for 3 golds in Rio Bolt.

JeffLee, if you are in the US, and/or can get NBC, they will start showing all the major sports tonight at 8pm EST. They're holding off on showing the performance until prime time for ratings. which is Stupid considering the majority of American has Internet or has access to it, and already know the result before they air it. Stupid NBC.

Shar999, thanks but I'm in Japan. You're right about watched it taped, rather than live, though.

Only Ben Johnson woulda beaten Bolt.

Ben Johnson on performance enhancing drugs (9.79) would've only come 4th in yesterday's 100m final. Sprinting has evolved!

The Blake-Bolt showdown was a set-up for the sponsors. This was just hype to introduce a new spicy Jamaican product! No one thought Bolt was going to be dethroned and you would have changed your mind after the qualifying round. A 31 y/o (next Olympics) Bolt will "pass the baton" to Blake, however Blake might let him win his final gold like a good yardi mon.

I saw it live, shame it instantly cut away to the hammer. nevermind, also had BBC on a livestream so could see the replay and interviews and analysis. Excellent work BBC. Bolt is the man. Even a retard biffing a bottle on the track couldn't distract him.

Who doesn't love this guy?

@JeffLee. Live on BS1 and TV Asahi. I tire of your intentional jibes at the media coverage of international events in Japan.

Simply the best!!!

A freak of nature for sure....

Luckily that tossed pet bottle that landed behind Bolt & company didn't trigger a false start. Guess everybody was concentrating on the starter's pistol. Reports said the dude who threw the bottle was apprehended.

Nonetheless, a good run by Bolt. Some day somebody will run faster ... that's what records are for ... to take aim at ...

Awesome run! Bolt is a beast. I heard that he would like to try to play soccer for Manchester United if he ever got the shot, and as crazy as it sounds, I wouldn't bet against him. Congrats to the Fastest Man Alive and probably the Greatest Of All Time!

nice. although the pose is getting a little tiresome.

That was just amazing. The man didn't even look like he was trying hard. I bet if he had hit the jets start to finnish, he might have broken 9.6. Just incredible. The other seven fastest men in the world and none of them could even push him along.

Happy to see a Jamaican brother win these races! Reminds me of that movie Cool Running??

I tire of your intentional jibes

What exactly was my "jibe"? I stated that I watched CNN, BBC and NHK at the time of the event and saw no coverage. Is that your definition of a "jibe"?

He stopped to perform his customary “bow and arrow” pose

I thought it was the lightening bolt pose ...

Lots of live streams and replays too.

I can't run for nuts, but I love watching this guy. There are sports that are hard to understand, and then if you do, you wonder why their in the Olympics, but seeing who can run fastest down a track for 100 meters? Beautiful. And even better if the guy who wins is an entertainer.

@JeffLee: Somebody like yourself who has so much to say and appears to have so much knowledge would surely be aware that CNN and the BBC would never be allowed to show live coverage of the Olympics on their World News Channels. Do not try and catch me out by saying the BBC in the UK does not show it all!! NHK's coverage while maybe not suited to the foreign palate has actually been very good. NHK G has been showing hours of events involving Japanese athletes and NHK BS1 has been showing even more hours of coverage of the 'big events' such as the 100 Metres final. As was pointed out to you, Asahi also covered the 100 metres final. So, yes, it is the biggest event of the games and was well covered here. I suggest you pick up a newspaper or use the internet in a more constructive way in the future rather than just come here to moan (constantly) about Japan.
