They should just do multiple overtime periods like the NHL.

Yup!!
Anyone know which channel (if any) the Women's Gold Medal game is on Thursday?

NHL's decision affects many countries, but it affects the US and Canada the most since that's their top domestic professional league, so that's where most of their pro players go
Canada though has a larger talent pool than the US, so has more talent in the ranks before getting into the NHL
The best players in the US team are still in college - they accorded themselves well but were no match to the veteran men of other countries' professional leagues

Another shootout? This is such a joke. Endurance was part of the sport. Nope. Not anymore. Just have splashy shootout. Pathetic.
They stopped that years ago. One overtime period then the stupid shootout.

Tough loss, but the Czechs are doing very well. They also beat Canada to end their unbeaten streak (for the past few Olympics), and are likely to face Canada again in the semis unless the OAR pulls off a miracle and wins. And Canada had a hard time beating Finland tonight. At least women's hockey will be the classic match-up.
In any case, tough loss... especially in a shoot-out. Shocker. Another shocker was Canada's curling women, who messed up big time and go home without a medal for the first time since curling was put into the Olympics.

During the regular season, they do shootouts
But during the playoffs, there's no shootouts - they play as many overtimes as it takes

This is the price the Americans have to pay for the NHL's decision not to permit their players to go to PyeongChang.
