six team tournament? So this global sport called baseball is seriously lacking something, popularity. Surfing in summer with predominantly on shore winds is going to be an interesting exercise in yawning.

I didn't realize that Chiba had waves big enough to host a world-class surfing competition.

This is a bad precedence. The way IOC planned it was a couple of additional sports covering 450 athletes.

Now, it's five sports covering 450 athletes, meaning the competition has to get cut down.

It's just a token gesture to the local (Japan) organisers, to give them a better chance for some medals, and try to justify the costs of dealing with the Lords of the Rings.

That will give Japanese touch to International Olympics like corn and azuki in German pastries and corn and nasubi in American Pizza :(

Japan wants a six-team tournament because it keeps losing in ones where there are more, and with at least three getting medals they can drool over the likelihood they'll look better and possibly get one this time around. Becuase with six teams it's certainly not a world Olympic sport, sorry. It's pathetic, is what it is.

Where are they going to "Hang 10?" If I were them, I would have introduced Sasuke. It's Japanese and more people outside Japan are doing it.

Baseball totally unneeded, womens softball ok, but no need for mens baseball!

It does and the surfing is a two day competition with open dates so over the two weeks they have a good chance of getting some overhead breaks. 20 men and women each so should be good.

So much negativity... sheesh! As if there wasn't already enough negativity with the Tokyo Olympics...

And Smith, the article says they were going for an 8 team tourney but the IOC (not Japan) cut it down to 6.
