Well done Hagino - still in high school! and beat Phelps at the Olympics.

Dare I say it, there will be a few kids beating Phelps this time around. Good swim by Mr.Hagino.

GREAT swim by the girls in the 4x100! Olympic Record, absolutely flying - and opening the account on the first day for us Aussies!

Hi, there. China has won two swimming golds and broken one Olympic and one world records. Any report about this in Japan? Are your japanese proud of Chinese whohave won for Asia? Why you only report usa winning but not report Chinese winning? Sore grapews?

Hagino was awesome!! He's def one to watch for the future. I think Phelps will come away from these games disappointed. Kitajima is also not having a great meet.

I did want to smack the interviewer when he started talking about the next Olympics and how he'll get gold. He's got a bronze, be proud of him and don't start in on the pressure FFS!

David, it is Japan. While I 100% agree with what you are saying, I highly doubt China is covering how the Japanese have done either.

@ david - try being an aussie here in Japan following your super Aussie swim team like me! Frustrating. Even though we may nab a goldmine, we will hardly hear anything of it! The Japanese - understandably - want to watch Japanese athletes AND "famous" names only like Phelps etc. There is a definite pro-USA bias here, but that has always been the case. They love them Yank sportsmen here!

get a grip will you people. This is Japan and Japanese report Japanese players. Is that too hard to comprehend? You can always check the net about your players and your country standing. Besides this is directly from AFP not JT.

Correct. But I'm willing to bet countries like the UK are showing a huge variety of sports on TV and not just focussing on home talent. All I see here are repeats of team Japan over and over again when some (just some) time could be better spent on showing some other sports. This is quite sad, considering there are real sports fans here and there are several channels showing the Olympics. Of course, this is made worse by the usual tarentos pretending to be experts. Even some of the real presenters know little - watching it yesterday at my partner's home and one presenter kept asking the other (who was the real expert) what was this and what was that - annoying to say the least.

Anyway, well done to Lochte. I see he wore those ugly grills again.

davidake:

That was history in the making - very first gold in swimming for the Chinese men. Here's hoping Sun will get one for the 1500m too. Good on the Chinese girl for winning the 400m medley while breaking the record without the help of those infamous body suits.

As well as the usual slanted TV coverage here, the authorities have made sure that it's near impossible to look for videos on the net in most countries. Anything naughty gets deleted from youtube, so I suggest you try finding the Chinese names of the athletes and then search in youtube. And do it fast before even Chinese videos are removed from youtube.

Yogi Berra, a famous US baseball player said : "Baseball is 90 percent mental, the other half physical". The same goes for those young Olympic athletes who hunger for gold. Phelps might or might not have that hunger anymore.

BurakuminDes: Phelps did win a record eight Olympic gold medals in swimming. Does that explain why people are following him?

If anyone knows of any Japanese website (like those of TV channels) where we can watch videos of a variety of sports, then I'd like to know. Or any site accessible within Japan. I remember, during the last Olympics, one TV channel's website offered videos, but they only showed Japanese athletes.

Hagino is going to be a national hero even though he came in third. He beat Phelps as a 17 year old. The kid has a bright future. Lochte looks to be on his way to being the dominate force in this years Olympic men's swimming competition.

Waiting to see how Kitajima does in the breast stroke events...

@ paul - not knocking Phelpsie, mate - you won't find a bigger fan than me. However that previous poster made a good point: it would be good to see a few other nations' world-beaters, not just the focus on superstars, as we see with Phelps and in the past with Thorpedo here. I mean, Rice nabbed 3 golds last time and we saw virtually nothing of her races here at all!
