Ah, the old cumulative "overall" medals table! Pretty much all other news agencies I look at show it in terms of Golds won. Germany is only number 4 on this table.... a bit silly. Theyre bossing it so far with 5 Golds!

Always weird to see the Netherlands so high on a winter Olympics table. They suck at pretty much all winter sports yet excel at a couple of relatively low-key sports (speed skating/short track) with plenty of medals on offer.

BurakuminDes: "Ah, the old cumulative "overall" medals table!"

Yeah, it's ridiculous. JT started using this one (not sure if it was just them, or Japan in general) after failing to get more golds in the last Olympics, but had gotten a number of other medals. It literally changed in a week from the regular, more intelligent standings with Gold being a higher value than the other medals, to the cumulative total table. Well, fine, I say. Japan should give up its dream of getting golds, then, and just aim for more bronze medals overall so it can be #1.

This is the AP medals table.

American influence yet again. Perhaps JT should note that even Kyodo News follows the rest of the world and lists countries first in order of gold. The other method usually puts USA in a better light at the end of the competition. They were the only country who thought they were number one at the Beijing Olympics. Unfortunately the country that really came first had 12 more gold medals than USA.
