This is a stupid article, and somewhat offensive for focusing so much on the fact that she lost. This article should be focusing on the fact that she competed, which is far more notable than that. Very disappointed with the headline!

Glad she was able to compete after all parties came up with a solution. Being 16-years-old coupled with the pressure of competing with other Olympians and only given the go-ahead on Tuesday to be the first female in her country to compete in the Olympics is a gold medal in itself. She has come first place in my book.

Are you kidding? She HUGELY represents the struggle for equality for Saudi women. And she didn't wear a hijab, she wore a swimmer's cap. and so what if she does?

They should participate in more sports................like fencing, everything covered ( even the face )!! Beach volleyball, bloody unlikely.

I'm no big fan of Islam WilliB but you're spouting rhetoric. They finally found a comprimise as far as the Olympics go, Saudi couldn't change the rules completely and the Olympic Commitee stood their ground that the head covering could not be able to be grabbed. This at least allows more women from Islamic countries to expose themselves to the rest of the world (through sports for the time being) and gain more independence as they become more knowledgable beyond the, "women are worth half a man" mentality of their homes.

Eventually this should hopefully give the women more confidence and values in their lives to stand up against the oppressive Islamic ideology.

Maybe we'll see a Saudi women's beach volleyball team next

I think many are missing the key point: Saudi Arabia and Islamic countries ONLY sent women this time because the IOC pressured them to do so. The Saudis at first said no, but then got scared of being booted out of the Games and so relented.
