Nadeshiro (is that a word for "male" Nadeshiko)! congratulations wonder if China / Korea are complaining yet about the judging

Tokyotom - I didn't even see any chinese competitors during mens all-around. The was a korean, but he failed and got too far behind. Gongratulations for Japans second gold medal. Also to Uchimura-sama, you're gold worth.

Congratulations to Uchimura! Way to put the tough spots behind you and show you are a true champion.

Nadeshiro (is that a word for "male" Nadeshiko)!

No.

His performance was immaculate to say the least. It's been 28 years since the Los Angeles Olympics (1984) for the gold medal in individual all-around title in male gymnastics for Japan.

Congrats. And yes we will see him everyday for a solid year... I guess a real champ is better than AKB.

Congratulations! So happy for him!

"And yes we will see him everyday for a solid year... "

And those endorsements will make him financially confortable for the rest of his life.

That was the best day of competition! Uchimura truly is superman and the fight at the end for the other medals made for great viewing. Tanaka did so well too, shame he couldn't finish cleanly on those last two apparatus

Congrats Uchimura - a true winner in every sense. Did you guys all stay up to watch this? I was dead after 1am...

"My mother has always been my biggest source of support,” he said. “Before the Games, she told me that the loudest voice in the arena would be hers."

I find that athletes who able to maintain their mental composure and perform their best in major events tend to have special bonds with their parents, especially their mothers. I would imagine that for such athletes, having their mothers supporting them all their lives up until to the defining moment of the tournament should be quite enough to make them feel as if the whole world is behind them and that there is really nothing to be afraid of.

TokyoTom: "congratulations wonder if China / Korea are complaining yet about the judging"

Entirely unnecessary, especially given that if any team has been complaining more than the others you name it's been Japan about Judo.

Anyway, the REAL reason I came on here was to say a well deserved congrats to Uchimora. He hasn't done as well as he had hoped to, but this makes up for it, and I KNEW by reading his comments and those of other athletes yesterday that he'd up his game and take the gold this time. Well done.

Congratulations. Not a fan of his, but credit has to be given where it's due. He was the only Japanese I could think of who was very likely to strike gold. A shame that his team's silver will always be stained by the controversy of his pommel horse performance.

As yajirou said, no Chinese there, so you can't blame them this time. There'll be at least one Chinese in the women's individual final, so you can get ready to bash them later tonight. Can you cite me a case where the Chinese have complained about the judging this week? I can tell you of one time when the Japanese complained!

Good job!

Well deserved. A gutty performance after failing badly in the qualifying. And good on Japan for being 3rd in the medal standings.

9th actually (using the official table where number of golds count first).

Well done mate, you can jump over a box and do a cartwheel. Well done indeed!

@bilderberg_2015 as opposed to kicking a ball around or hitting things with sticks? what's your problem man - jeeze.

He's the reigning world champ for 3 years in a row and was the obvious pick for the gold, barring uncharacteristic mistakes. Many in the sport rate him as the top male gymnast of all time and he's absolutely dedicated to his sport, what's not to like?

Did I not give him credit? You must need reading glasses. No matter how well he did in his individual event, please don't tell me his performance in the team final and qualifications was that good. Because it wasn't. That 'landing' from the horse was terrible and he knows it.

I just wonder why you are not a fan of his. He showed he was human in the prelims and team finals, and much smarter to make mistakes in quals than the final like team USA did. I represented my country for Gymnastics then spent many years coaching & judging - not to international brevet judge level but enough to recognize a sporting legend which he is in this arena.

MrsT:

I don't mean to be rude, but why should I be a fan of someone just because he or she is good at their sports? In my opinion, Michael Phelps was phenomenal in the last Olympics but I'm not a fan of his. Roger Federer is without doubt one of the best ever tennis players but I'm not a fan of his. I'm sure they're all nice people and what, and I recognize their achievements and I'd clap my hands if I were watching them win something, but should I have to be a fan?

Making mistakes in the quals is not smart - nobody wants to do it, because if other teams do better, you're out. There won't be a final. And, as I said, he did have big mistakes in the team final.

I hope no Chinese or Korean coaches expressed doubt and demand a drug test.

mrst:

I admit Phelps was great but I'm not a fan. Federer is probably the best ever tennis player but I'm not a fan. You can have total respect for someone and acknowledge their performances but that doesn't mean you have to be a fan.

^ fair enough. I was just curious if it's because of their style of play, persona, out of sport behaviour, general desire to back underdog etc etc
