Oh well, time to pack it in. Call it a career.

She was trailing 7-6 (4), 3-0

Those things happen.

Osaka should have stuck to tennis. BLM and wokism got to her, made her arrogant, and wrecked her career at an early age. Take a lesson, athletes. Stick to your sport. Like Ohtani has done.

Stick to your sport. Like Ohtani has done.

Ohtani is great. I can't help but notice the difference Othani and Osaka.

Jazzyjazz: "Ohtani is great. I can't help but notice the difference Othani and Osaka."

You only notice ONE difference? There are quite a few, first and foremost they play completely different sports.

In any case, I think Osaka is done. She had a good go of it for a while, but I think when she fired her coach that was a major turning point for the worse.

Naomi should start her own tennis league, with her own money, or investments from sponsors.

Where she can set the rules.

I love to watch her play in top form, but I have never seen a professional athlete in such a state. Ever. crying on the court, crying in press conferences, blaming others for her athletic poor performance.

If all the money in the world cannot buy you therapy, or "well being" retreat sessions to help your mental state, then maybe she needs to rethink what makes her happy in this world, because this circle she is in, is just not working out it seems.

She could easily live off of 1 million a year for the rest of her life.

So it was her back? Or was it that she simply lacks the backbone. My money's on the latter...

She seems to be getting injured a lot recently. Might be time to call it quits before she does permanent damage to her body.

She's done.

So all of a sudden because she's not winning, it because of BLM and wokeism. Stupid take. The annals are filled with the activism of great black athletes. The thinly veiled envy and hate by posters, most of whom had not heard of her until she won that first Slam, is pathetic and they are just hating because she doesn't care to fit into the box of what is supposedly Japanese. Ohtani is the only Japanese athlete or what? You all only pick the one who comes off as a "true" Japanese only because he's so successful. Ever heard of any other names? Since you all brought him up, how many championships has Ohtani won?

If she's done as so many of you are happy to post, name a Japanese tennis player that has done better.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Bad luck Naomi. All of Japan is behind you though!

Mocheake...

Japanese? Kimiko Date...

Mr Kipling?

Grandslam Champion 4x.

Date was good. But not that good.

@CKAI The main problem for a lot of people is not her game, it's because she goes out with black rappers, which means she doesn't "act" Japanese.

I was watching this young lady at least 2 years before she ever won a Grand Slam. It was crickets then and they were all riding Nishikori. She wins a major and boom, every little thing is under the microscope, everyone is a critic and phony fans and haters start coming out of the woodwork. Good luck to her and hope she can keep away from the constant negativity.

No one can take her HIGHLY successful career away from her.

"So all of a sudden....."

Ohtani is part of a team sport, Osaka plays for herself.

"most of you had not heard of her before her first grand slam win"

Not most- all. Should we have known her?

CKAI...

Date was good. But not that good.

Date is the best JAPANESE female tennis player. I thought that was the question.

@memoryfix Distasteful post, Osaka is an athlete and they do have injuries they are normal just like regular people the only difference is they are constantly in the media. By saying "BLM and wokism got to her, made her arrogant, and wrecked her career at an early age". That's your opinion and her PERSONAL lifestyle choice it has nothing to do with her tennis career but everything about your opinion. Perhaps her out spoken comments have some affect on people lives in the COUNTRY SHE CHOSE TO LIVE IN you wrote "Take a lesson, athletes. Stick to your sport. Like Ohtani has done" Perhaps Ohtani doesn't say anything because that is the "JAPANESE WAY" not to be out spoken and use their platform to be a voice. If you can recall BTS was the same way the issues that affect them in Korea they dared to speak about but once outside the country they spoke out!! Perhaps that why most things in Japan go unspoken because most of those who have a platform stay quiet an that is understandable because that is the Japanese way not to say what they truly feel or THINK. They don't want to stir what they think is trouble.

Tough luck Naomi, but hopefully she'll be back fit and firing for Flushing Meadows.

She's done.

Oh well, time to pack it in.

The beginning of the end...

Sorry to disappoint the handful of angry, white, middle-aged males in Japan who don't like her, but this proud Japanese Major winner - highest paid Japanese athlete in history - will be back. Make no mistake.

@Mr Kipling

Date's good. She's Not 4x Grandslam Champion good. Sure she won a buncha Nationals, question is she Grandslam level greatness. As for other questions… go ahead, spell JAPANESE, in BIG letters, knock yerself out. Everytimes still gonna be 100% WRONG. Why Spray it when you can say it etc. Screaming doesnt make you less wrong. Google or maybe ask her for a passport, birth cert photocopy, or better yet, watch a match and see for yourself, shes the one playing with that white red dot flag on there, next to her name. Just the facts hombré… but you play in your court… I'll play in mine.

Date is the best JAPANESE female tennis player. I thought that was the question.
