Why is this news? Yes, her mother is Japanese, and Naomi did live here for three years as a toddler, but she doesn’t speak the language, and more importantly, she has never chosen to physically reside in the country long term, to interact daily with the people, and participate in society (by for example, exercising her right to vote). Some may claim that she can’t do those things while she’s playing tournaments. Well, she’s not playing tournaments now. Where is she?

Agree that her selecting to represent Japan reeked of opportunism from Day 1. She didn’t grow up here, doesn’t spend any time here. In my mind she is American. This whole ‘I’m Japanese’ thing is a bit of a sham. If she wants to be Japanese that’s fine. Come and live here, learn the language beyond being able to say ‘katsudon!” Maybe then people would see her in a different light.

Well, to be fair, she can say 'ojiisan'. This is in reference to the grandfather who wanted nothing to do with her and her black father...............until she suddenly started raking in the money.

I really do blame her parents for the sheltered life she's lived. Her command of the only language she can speak isn't even that great. She probably hasn't spent much time with other kids and so lacks those certain social skills as well as a rounded education. I know it's not easy to get full-time education while being a tennis player on the tour, but Raducanu has shown us what is possible, and has come off as a much more rounded and intelligent person. She may never win another tournament but she will, at least, have other options in life.

She is an adult.

Not a little girl.

She makes all the decisions when it comes to Black lives matter, and how much she loves and supports that side.

She picked her bf too, none of them are Asian or Japanese. Her parents didn't force her, she makes all the decisions herself.

-Naomi Osaka loves Black culture and Black People. USA as a country.

Nothing for Japanese, nothing for Japan. Except if money is involved.

Happiness does not come

from fame and money in the bank.

Comes from the mind set.

There are those that kretch about any and every kind of weather, and there are people like me that are happy to wake up and enjoy what nature has decided for the weather.

Bye bye Osaka then it seems

A flash in the pan

well and who really cares...?

She's not the learning studious type so this brings doubt to her residing in Japan or learning more Japanese

Naomi has to answer for herself Why do I like tennis? And if the answer isn't there, then retire. It's hardly a loss when she has $tens of millions in the bank maybe even 100 mil by now.

She can go do whatever she wants. But she doesn't know even that

All I have are ideas and no money to do any of it. Universe is weird

I'm not surprised at all. Please take a longer break.

Tell somebody who cares!

Thank goodness. An update!

It's been at least two weeks since our last one on this person.

Can't wait for the next one..............

More importantly, how did Simona Halep drop to 17th on that list?

And she should take time off as long as she wants.

Yes, if by flash in the pan you mean someone who's won 4 Grand Slams, 7 singles titles, has a 251/139 win/loss record and overall winnings of $20,000,000.00 +. I'd love to be that kind of "flash in the pan".

@ReasonandWisdomNippon

She is an adult. TRUE

Not a little girl. TRUE

She makes all the decisions when it comes to Black lives matter, and how much she loves and supports that side. WHATS WRONG WITH HER VOICING HER OPINION

She picked her bf too, none of them are Asian or Japanese. Her parents didn't force her, she makes all the decisions herself. SHE HAS A RIGHT TO CHOSE

-Naomi Osaka loves Black culture and Black People. USA as a country. FUNNY HER OWN GRAND PARENTS DIDN'T EXCEPT HER until she BECAME FAMOUS MONEY CHANGES PERCEPTION

Nothing for Japanese, nothing for Japan. Except if money is involved. WHY HAVE EXPECTATION HAD SHE NOT BEEN A TENNIS STAR THIS WOULDN'T BE A JAPANESE TENNIS CHAMP

VERY ONCE SIDED POST

@ stickman1760

doesn’t spend any time here. In my mind she is American. WHY SPEND TIME IN A PLACE YOU REALLY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.

This whole ‘I’m Japanese’ thing is a bit of a sham. HER MOM IS JAPANESE BUT ACCORDING TO HER OWN GRANDPARENTS AT BIRTH SHE WAS WROTE AS NOT BEING JAPANESE.

If she wants to be Japanese that’s fine. TRUE AND IF SHE WANTS TO BE BLACK HAITIAN ITS OK

Come and live here, learn the language beyond being able to say ‘katsudon!” SHE CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE BEING ABLE TO SAY WHAT SHE CAN IF FIND BETTER THAN SAYING NOTHING AT ALL,

Maybe then people would see her in a different light. HAD SHE NOT BEEN A TENNIS STAR THE LIGHT WOULDN'T HAVE SHINNED AT ALL AND PERHAPS THE GRAND PARENTS MIND SET WOULD BE THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE IN JAPAN WHO DOESN'T ACCEPT WHO SHE IS

She may be down but she’s not out. She’ll be back.
