Naomi Osaka is no longer about tennis. She’s about attention.
Four easiest ways to get attention (according to Chris Rock)
(1) Be excellent
Like Serena, who had the greatest tennis career ever. Serena won all four Grand Slam tournaments at least three times each, a total of 23 times! But, it’s mentally and physically hard to be excellent. You’ve got to get up in the morning. You’ve got to work out. You’ve got to practice. To get attention, it’s easier to …
(2) Show your ass
Naomi did.

But to get attention, it’s easier to …
(3) Be infamous
Like refusing to show up to required post-match press conferences at the French Open. Not showing up for press actually got Naomi more press! But to get attention, it’s easier to …
(4) Be a victim
We now live in a world where the emergency room is filled with crybabies with paper cuts. Naomi gets paid millions of dollars in endorsements to hit a fuzzy ball over a net in posh surroundings. She resides in an $8.6 million (1.27 billion yen) home in a leafy, idyllic neighborhood in Los Angeles. She’s has earned over $450 million in her career, putting her in the top 0.01% of all earners. And she claims to be a victim?
Fighto!
All the very best to Naomi and the rest of the Japanese team in the Billie Jean Cup. Keep that rise up the rankings going, Naomi!

She's a living proof that fame, money and talent can't buy happiness and contentment.
Blacklabel
Yeah with results like hers i wouldn’t be focusing on results either.
Fighto!
What a shocking career she has had. As opposed to your spectacular results in sporting Majors.

Ma Osaka is a mentally troubled individual and has, regretfully, been unstable for a long time and not received or sought the help she badly needs.
I have been worried for her mental health since she was 16. No, I am neither psychologist nor psychiatrist but one of the worlds most experienced personal managers. Ms Osaka has been insufficiently coached during her teens. Coached in life. Not tennis. She was always insecure and never able to take control of her mental abilities. Her agents and coaches need to take responsibility for that while I know how hard the job of accompanying and mentoring a young talent is.
She tries to defend her weakness by spreading around and showcasing a false self confidence. I worry for her. We, fans, readers, journalists, sport professionals should not make easy jokes on her comments and unpredictable behaviour but urge her to get the help she needs. Or we might regret later we didn’t.
as for her as an athlete, intrinsically she is ( or was) a player who can dominate tennis for the the 5 to 7 years but it will never happen as she does neither have now the mental nor physical condition for it.
She is now playing on 95 % talent and 5 % work. While that should be 60/40.
she is doing a job, not enjoying her talents

Nice. Wouldn't expect anything less on this message board ,!.
Fighto!
Not really sure a 4-time Major winner worth upwards of $300 million - and a new mother to boot - really needs your help. As "expert" and world's best as it is, I'm sure.
Naomi could retire tomorrow and never have to work a day in her life.

Absolutely true, but what a waste of talent.

spitfire it’s not a waste of talent!! It’s the La k of effort the talent is there. I’m sure you have a job if you don’t put in the work it’s not because you waste your talented skills it the lack of effort using them. Her talent is there she just has to provide the effort she had in the past. Of course life change causes people to slow down their skills the talent is there it just means you have to apply more effort. Like thinking!!!
