Well, Serena just lost, so let's see if that's a chance for Naomi. Halep is also out

Osaka vs. Pliskova!!

Good!!

No repeat of the US Open unnecessary dramatics!!!

Good luck, Naomi!!!

Surprised Serena didn't throw another tantrum and claim sexism again after losing, good on her for maturing!

I would love to see Osaka win a major title that is not marred by the petulant, self-absorbed antics of another player.

With Pliskova as her opponent, rather than Williams, there will be no overtones of the US Open fiasco caused by Williams poor sportsmanship!!

Excellent. It's always nice to see Williams lose. Despite being the greatest talent ever to grace the women's tour, her on-court personality has always made it difficult to cheer for her.

Yes, it feels good to see petulant cheaters lose.

Nishikori out with injury, again. Dude is past his best well and truly. Naomi now the shining star of Japanese tennis.

Agree with the latter. So do many Japanese who insisted she was NOT Japanese two years ago. Nishikori won't have lost because Djokovic is better, though. It'll be because of the injury, plain and simple. Bad way to go out, but he would have lost anyway.

Serena isn't even blaming her ankle for the loss - instead she's crediting Pliskova for playing the best tennis of her life in the match points
