Well done to Nemour, France's loss.

On the second day of the apparatus finals at Bercy, 17-year-old Arena Nemour produced "the performance of her life" to claim the uneven bars title and become the first African to win an Olympic gymnastics medal of any color.

Yulo of the Philippines then shrugged off a sleepless night following his floor gold on Saturday to triumph on the vault.

Congrats to the smaller nations winning golds - Nemour and Yulo

After winning their first & only Olympic gold in Tokyo despite competing since 1924, the Philippines got 2 golds in back-to-back nights thanks to Yulo!

And congrats to Sunisa Lee for another medal haul

One thing I do like about the Olympics is when an unexpected athlete emerges as triumphant. Other than that, it tends to be an often unseemly outlet for ultra-nationalistic fervor.

I don't know if people have been watching Snoop Dogg's commentaries, but he truly loves the Olympics and brings his own, funny, flavor, to the different competitions. NBC is putting Snoop in the training rooms with the different competitors. At the Gymnastics meet a few days ago, Snoop was in the stands dancing, rooting for team USA when the USA Women's Gymnastics team noticed and started dancing back with him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sy0O6m9fTcQ - this was a bad quality video. NBC has posted a better one, but I didn't find it.

They put Snoop in a pool with Michael Phelps to get some tips. He improved greatly. Snoop isn't a great swimmer, let's just say that.

I don't know why I like Snoop. He's an undefinable American treasure. He's all about the games and the athletes from around the world doing their best. He was invited to some Judo training: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEquH6ctYlo

Snoop highlights the athletes and their support systems - family, coaches, and friends. After all, you can't be an Olympic-level athlete without massive support from those people. Families give up so much to pay for their Olympian's dreams for many, many, years, in all sports.
