Fighto!
Hats off to all the medallists - Arisa, Cocona and Sky! It was clear these teens have no fear at all attacking those ramps. Coincidentally, all three girls are of Japanese background which is interesting.

Talk about a nation punching above its weight in the Olympic gold medal count.
Australia has less than 10% of the population of the US, less than 1% of the population of China. That's impressive.
Japantime
It is great for Australia that they are winning medals in events other than swimming. It is good to see countries focusing on other events.

Something not right about having 12, 13 & 14 year old little girls competing in the Olympics, They should be in school not competing at International level competitions and training each and every day. Tennis and Gymnastics all have minimum age requirements of 16 or more
NOMINATION
Congrats to the medalists! I have no clue how this is judged. I thought Sirvio of Finland had a good set at the end there to score into the 90s.

Good for Arisa Trew and Australia. It's very impressive to win the gold and Australia is doing very well in these Olympics. The silver and bronze winners are impressive, too. It's a great sport.

Well done!!!

A medal sweep for Japan! All have at least one Japanese parent. How come Japan rocks at skateboarding?
I haven't noticed that many skate parks.

Sky Brown's dad owns one in Kyushu. There aren't many around towns just for the casual skater, but it is not the casual skater who wins medals. It is intense skaters who practice on big ramps at dedicated centers.
As for why Japan wins, I suspect the Japanese physique with its low center of gravity and shorter leg bones is suited to spinning-based sports. Many multiple rotation big air snowboard tricks (1620s etc) were landed first by Japanese riders.

I don't know about school, but competitive skateboarding now places a high physical toll on its competitors. One of the reason gymnastics banned very young girls was that they were all ending up with arthritis in their twenties. Some of them could barely walk when they were thirty. If the same thing starts happening with skateboarders, I would hope rules would be introduced to protect them. Only one person wins the gold medal. There will be hundreds if not thousands practicing the same tricks with the same exposure to head, knee, and shoulder injuries.

How come this is an Olympic sport?? What's next, billiard trick shot competition? :)

Excellent work! to all these young beautiful souls kudos and keep it up.

Australia’s Arisa Trew is an absolute champion, the youngest gold medalist at these Olympic games, the youngest ever Olympic medalist for Australia, gold or otherwise. And as if that wasnt enough, she was heard and seen encouraging her competitors on camera right after her gold medal run while she could still be beaten by those competitors. All show true friendship and close comradery, amazing to see. All would run to congratulate each other after a run.
Children showing the world how adults should behave towards each other for a better world of peace and acceptance. Inspiring stuff for all ages.

Skateboarders are some of the chillest competitors there
John-San
Youngest ever Olympic Gold Metalist. And the best display of sportpersonship by all competitors at an Olympic event ever.
Mr Kipling
That's what I thought before watching.
It takes incredible skill and bravery it's exciting and the competitors are cool characters.
And it gets some of the youth off their phones and game consoles. I'm a fan!
Strangerland
Because it's an insanely difficult sport, practiced wold wide by impoverished youth. Do you feel they should only allow sports with a high financial barrier to make sure to keep out the plebs?
餓死鬼
Because it is. Have you seen what these athletes can do?
Well, billiards is also a sport.

Australian Trew wins gold in women's park skateboarding; Japan gets silver
Japan’s Cocona Hiraki was in front through two rounds after scoring a 91.98 on her first run, but she had dropped to third going into her final chance. The 15-year-old responded with her best run of the day, a performance that had the crowd oohing with each of her completed tricks, to post a 92.63 and earn her second silver medal.

Silver. Great!
Well done, Cocona Hiraki.

Yes, apparently that’s true—what an interesting coincidence. :)
