That's not how it works. There is a limit on the number of participants per country in a sport, so some of those participants wouldn't even be there if they're all combined

That's like if the UK sent separate participants from England, Scotland, Wales, and N. Ireland, then adding up all their medals. No, some of those participants won't even be there when combined to the same UK team because there's a limit on the number of participants that the UK can send per sport

And adding Taiwan - you're really getting desperate. Taiwanese don't even want to be part of China! (It's not like Puerto Rico, who recently voted to remain part of the USA, despite fielding separate teams.) What's next, adding Ukraine's medals to Russia's (oh wait, they're not even there, lol)

What tactics? The USA were right that the judges were wrong with the difficulty evaluation

The appeals court only ruled to overturn the bronze medal because they deemed that the US were 4 seconds too late in submitting an appeal. 4 seconds! (The US is now appealing against that, supposedly with a video showing they submitted the appeal before the deadline. So it may yet overturn again)

But if the judges would had gotten the difficulty evaluation correct from the get-go, this whole thing wouldn't even be necessary. So what tactics are ya talking about? Appealing to correct a mistake by the judges?

USA Gymnastics announced Sunday that it has submitted additional evidence in the effort to have gymnast Chiles’ medal reinstated.

The organization said it has video evidence “conclusively establishing that Head Coach Cecile Landi’s request to file an inquiry was submitted 47 seconds after the publishing of the score, within the 1-minute deadline required by FIG rule.”

The U.S. women's basketball team held off France on Sunday to win gold in the final event of the Paris Olympics, and that hardware was needed for the Americans to tie China for the most with 40.

Hats off to the US women's basketball team - 8 straight golds, surpassing the US men's basketball team in consecutive golds in Olympic team sports! And they beat yet another host team for the gold medal - all host team losses in Olympic gold medal basketball history are to the US, lol

The U.S. has won the most overall medals in eight consecutive Summer Games. The last time the Americans failed to top the medal leaderboard was the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

Seems this is the first time in Olympic history that there's a tie in top gold medals (40). The US could have had 1 more gold if US high-jumper McEwen hadn't passed up an opportunity to share a guaranteed Olympic gold when he was tied at the top at the end of the competition (like what happened last time in Tokyo). Instead, they decided for tiebreakers, and he ended up with silver.

The U.S. easily won the total medal count with 126. Aside from the 40 gold, the Americans won 42 silver and 44 bronze.

That's also their most total medals since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics - their silvers and bronze medals together (86) are more than any other country's total medals except China (91), but only by a little. And the next Olympics in Los Angeles, they'd get the typical host team bounce. Since they got so many silvers and bronzes (meaning, they're competitive in many sports), the host team bounce will turn some of those into golds.

That game was a nail-biter. Good job by France in competing hard and great job by the U.S. women in pulling out the victory.

I don't dispute that Hong Kong is part of China. However, your assertion regarding the UK is patently wrong: the UK is a co-signatory to the Sino-British Joint Declaration, which (despite the CCP's lies) runs until 2047.

As ever, China doesn't respect any of the agreements it signs, but it still refers to HK as another "System," despite the fact that Xi has clearly destroyed this system.

Yes, if they're combined the most likely to win medals will be fielded, naturally; and the athletes less likely to win will not be there.

There's also less chances to win a medal because there's fewer representatives from a country. Ex: knockout a Chinese athlete, and there's still a Hong Kong athlete that can win a medal, vs. knockout a combined Chinese/Hong Kong athlete, there's no more chance to win a medal

There's also the possibility that the places that would've opened up for other countries could affect the outcome. For instance, using my UK (England, Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland) example in a team knockout tournament. If all 4 UK parts England, Scotland, Wales, and N. Ireland teams make it to the knockout stage, that's 4 chances for the UK to win medals (even the possibility for all 3 medals)

But if they're combined to just the one UK team, that's 3 knockout places that could be occupied by other nations like a Germany, a France, or an US team. That's 3 extra countries that could win a medal and beat the UK

The possibilities are just endless in the permutations of including parts of a country vs. a combined national team. That's why combining medals of different parts of a country - it doesn't work that way

If they're competing as separate teams, then they're separate medals (not combined). If they want to combine their medals, then they have to field a combined team (not as separate teams). Simple

A country with a long, documented (and continuing) history of state-sponsored doping is not very impressive to me.

As for Team China's gold, you can add on the two won by Hong Kong and two won by Chinese Taipei.

Hong Kong: You could if you wanted to highlight the fact that Xi has trashed the Sino-British Joint Declaration and destroyed the territory. But China laughably wants to keep up the farce of One Country Two Systems.

Last post on this subject as we're getting off-topic, but suffice to say that the CCP willingly negotiated the terms, willingly signed the Declaration, and willingly registered it with the United Nations on June 12, 1985. And the CCP has now broken this.

You can try to dispute/twist these facts if you wish, but you will only be preaching to the CCP choir.

The population of Japan is much smaller than China and America.

The population metric doesn't work in the Olympics because there's a limit on the number of participants per sport that each country can field, regardless of its population

Ex: in a sport, the number of teams from Japan is the same as the number of teams from China and America

If population is to be used as a metric, then the number of participants should be proportional to the number of the population

But if the number of the population doesn't matter to the number of the participants, then the number of population shouldn't matter to the number of medals

In short, if population is not used as a factor in the input, then it also shouldn't be used as a factor in the output. Either use it in both, or don't use it in neither. Can't be just one or the other

I do love the massive cope that China and the US tie in Golds, and the CCP cheerleaders then begin claiming other national entities achievements--despite the fact that, as has been discussed, you don't get to add additional athletes. When the CIA and NED thugs caused trouble by paying HK kids to riot, the local police could have shot them like they do in your cuntry of America or they could have sent in the PLA. The US came in 1st. Japan 3rd. That's all I care about. Argue all you want about China, they came in 2nd. Adding other territories doesn't make a difference. Look at the official totals. The pro-China people here have no point but to stump for China as having won, which isn't the case. Japan got 20 gold medals in many different types of sports. The population of Japan is much smaller than China and America.

But if we add the 2 golds from Taiwan and 2 from HK, that's 4 more golds for China..

The International Gymnastics Federation did not rule that Chiles’ new score was inaccurate. The federation simply ruled the appeal was made 4 seconds too late.

According to Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports, “Chiles’ coach, Cecile Landi, originally filed an appeal of Chiles' score when she believed the judges failed to properly score Chiles' degree of difficulty. Landi believed the judges failed to notice Chiles performed a split leap — or a tour jete full, in gymnastics parlance — and gave her a 5.800 difficulty score rather than a proper 5.900. The judges, upon review, agreed.”

In the end, Chiles performed at a level that put her in third place. She thus deserves that bronze medal.
