Chelsea paid too much, Man Utd were desperate, and Forest bought an entire squad. Arsenal now have a decent mix of age and experience. Spurs may have upended the Kane/Son dynamic bringing in Perisic, excellent though he is, and Richarlison. Maybe they will sort that out. Other parts of the team needed improving. Instead they may have more forwards than they have space on the pitch for. Leicester sold but didn't do a lot of buying. Brighton banked a heap of cash yet still look good.

The best buys were probably Fabio Carvalho from Fulham to Liverpool (£5m plus add ons, which is pocket change for the premiership) and Haaland, who may be key to Man City finally winning the Champions League. That would make him cheap at £50m and a better alternative to Sterling and Jesus (the latter having fitted in superbly at Arsenal). I'm surprised Ben Brereton Díaz is still at Blackburn.

Several clubs are now facing fair play spending restrictions.

Arsenal is one of 20 European clubs on UEFA’s watchlist of teams that could potentially break their Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Chelsea and Man City. West Ham. Liverpool.

It is a complete disgrace. And in a year where people will die from the cold due to high energy bills. It's about time fans walked away from the Premier League, and I'm a big Arsenal fan. We should universally dump this millionaires sport with its new shirts every season and expensive ticket prices. The Premier League have completely ignored the cost of living crisis and energy squeeze, as if life is great for everyone.

Support your local semi-pro or amateur club instead. Much much cheaper and more genuine and good fun. And they won't change their home and away shirts every season.

Sadly this is only going to get worse I'm afraid. The PL just signed new deals bringing in $12 billion over the next 3 years, and the clubs have a myriad of ways to rinse the supporters for more.

Player wages are the real issue, they are seemingly uncontrollable in world football. Teams such as Everton and Leicester are spending 85% of their turnover on their footballers salaries, and creating a global salary cap framework is impossible with teams like PSG, Man City & Newcastle in the game. The government won't want to intevene as they make billions from taxing them all.

I absolutely agree 100% and wish people would do this, but we both know that elite football will always be what people want to watch.

Good post.
