Sadly I doubt most Liverpool fans were "stunned". The Reds defense has been poor all season and against a top team like Real they were always in danger. New defenders needed. To progress now they will have to score goals at will at the Bernebeu - probably 5 or 6.

Any defence with Gomez in it is always going to be shaky.

@Fighto!

Agreed. No surprise at all, the way the team has been playing. Midfield is arguably a bigger problem than defence. It's been far too easy for opponents to stroll through midfield this season. Any defence would struggle given the amount of times they're exposed. Bajcetic is very promising, but still a kid learning his trade. Henderson is over the hill. Probably Fabinho too (or if not, he's in the worst form of his career). Wijnaldum was never replaced. Lots of fresh blood needed in the summer.

Great first 15 minutes when Liverpool was two up. Then they became the Titanic hitting the Real Madrid iceberg and very quickly sank. Very sadly, it's over and the team is in need of a heart transplant this summer. The defense, including Van Dijk, leaked goals like a hole in a ship.

Klopp has done wonders there, but you've got to wonder why they spent money on Gakpo with the other gaping holes across the team. Newcastle at the weekend should have scored first and still created three or four good chances with 10 men, two of them set pieces like Madrid's go-ahead goal here.

More humiliating than the final last season.

A seven goal thriller. Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid and Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have everything to play for at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. All the best.

You are way off there. Liverpool was badly humiliated. There is no way back and Klopp said so. We are finished in Europe.

Terrible performance, very disjointed again. Hopefully they play like this against Palace.

The Liverpool fans are very angry about this season with much of the blame on the owners who have not invested enough in the players to have a top-quality squad and a top-quality second team.

You will probably win 9-0 at this rate.

We had practically zero investment as usual and looks like Mr Zaha will be leaving on a free to play alongside Mr Ronaldo and earn more than any European club could pay.

Hard to predict the result at the weekend, both teams are very unpredictable.

Jamie Carragher said in a recent article on the BBC website that FSG actually offered to put up the money for Tchouameni last summer, but the player chose Real Madrid instead. Klopp then decided he'd stick with what he had in midfield, which has clearly proved to be a disaster.

FSG have been lambasted for their tight-fisted transfer dealings and rightly so, but not all the problems at Liverpool have been caused by that.

FSG caused confusion by first saying they were selling the club. Then part of the club. Then just a small investment.

When they bought the club in 2010 it was worth £300 million. Today it is worth more than £4 billion.

Only £618 million has been spent on players since 2010.

The team needs a rebuild. We don't accept failures at Liverpool.

Ancelotti to be the most successful coach in the history of football! British teams always succumb when confronted by Real Madrid of Barcellona! It’s a death sentence

Sad that you missed Liverpool knocking Barcelona out at Anfield a few years ago.

One of the best CL games in history.

Carlos Ancelotti is the greatest manager in the world, no doubt about that. Real Madrid is the greatest club in Europe. Winners 14 times. Liverpool 6 times.
