Festivities like Olympics, Grand Slams, Davis Cup, and Fed Cup offer immense motivation to athletes to generate awesome hunger and passion to participate.

Japan time...

Definitely the most popular Japanese athlete in the world right now.

Is this missing the sarcasm emoji? Or are we forgetting about that Otani chap?

I'm a fan, probably because I have two kids born in Osaka to a foreign father and Japanese mother. I like to think she puts her family before either country. It's not her fault that you're required to put a flag next to your name in sports tournaments.

Good luck to her and the baby!!

I hope motherhood helps to calm her mentally.

It is going to be tough juggling with her tennis career and being a single mother.

Maybe she is trying to say that she felt life had never really been her own. She was previously pressured by her parents into the tennis world. When you feel no autonomy you are prone to depression. She has struggled to become autonomous but still cannot overcome the feeling that life is not really her own so, now she has a daughter, she can exchange motherly duty for parental pressure. Will it work? I don't suppose her struggle - and even solution - is much different to many others, it's just that they don't have to endure in the spotlight but don't have the money for therapy either.

Great to see. She was such a big star at the Tokyo Olympics. Definitely the most popular Japanese athlete in the world right now.

I’m happy to see her coming back and I hope she does well.

All the best to Naomi in getting those points, climbing back up and making the Paris Olympics!

"I've never been a person that's really good at playing for myself, if that makes sense," she said.

It doesn't. But go on.......
