So why do they bring in so many foreigners to up the level? Do they bring in people from countries who also have the ‘character of team-work’. Not making much sense here, sport.
Far from it. It is a sport where there are inevitably arguments about refereeing and interpretation of the rules. It’s actually one of the least straightforward. Most of the Japanese people I knew watching the Rugby World Cup were asking me about the rules ( not that I was much help ).

Indeed. Long overdue and let's hope the momentum continues.
It's subjective, I suppose. I like the atmosphere at the baseball here but I wouldn't pretend to fully understand it. As for the latter, football, again, I like the atmosphere here at the matches but I wouldn't be overly passionate over the game in general. There's just something about a game of rugby that feels less contrived than some other games.

Brilliant job and well done to the team!

like what?

Less rolling around in pretend agony, for starters, like some football teams are want to do.
It's a fluid and straightforward game, unlike that strange American event which goes on forever and is very dull.

We were able to achieve our goal of making the best eight.
Come on now - was that seriously the goal of Team Japan? They did extremely well, but do we all have to pretend they achieved what they aimed for?

These big downtown parades are normally for champions, not just because a team has reached the quarterfinals. LOL. And wasn't the tournament played a while back? I don't get it.

Amazing World Cup for Brave Blossoms, well done! People are still stunned by the Blossoms performances. Especially the miracle against Ireland .
Lets not bicker about whether Rugby or Soccer is best. They are both great sports, and suit the Japanese character of team-work real well. Japan can be one of the best teams in both sports!!
Bit of trivia for you Gambare.
My home town in my native country has a Rugby Team, and the local Japanese company sponsers it.

Did the Japanese team win?

They reached the quarterfinals.

Agreed, I'd say it's also a woman's sport, as well.

All sports are great. I am a huge American football fan, but play soccer and tennis. I do not hate rugby. It is very childish and close minded to say that one sport is better than the other. All sports if practiced on a regular basis contribute to good heath. My University back in the states loves ALL SPORTS!!! You all are welcome to visit Gator Nation someday. ;)

@ toasted heretic, ye your right, it can be played at junior school, although they don't teach contact or impact the focus is on running and passing and gradually gets tougher as they get older, as there bodies can take more impact from tackles, as for woman joining in, I am all for it. The woman team are as tough as the men. I am sorry I should have included them.

Congrats to the team for a well overall performance and everything was left on the field. Not much of Rugby fan before, but after seeing the World Cup and several season games I enjoy the sport more than US NFL. That for me is overrated today and not unlike the sport of the past. Rugby brought the toughness of what makes a sport competitive in nature just like the US football used to do before it became too politically correct and corrupt. Rugby has managed to rugged, competitive but yet a gentleman's game. Nice.

Good for them.

Thank you Brave Blossoms for an incredibly uplifting season which brought so many people together and taught us about this amazing game.
MSR Japan
Great to see Rugby gaining the recognition it deserves in this country, a far better game than baseball or soccer.
Ganbare Japan!
@ ex Res - thats tremendous news! Japanese companies are lining up to get involved in Rugby

Rugby is a mans sport, unlike football, ( a bunch of over paid prima donnas ) I can see it taking off in Japan I really do, hope fully school will stop building pyramids, team building can be achieved through sport like rugby, passing, tackling, scrums, pushing and shoving, team building, strength building, stamina, every body gets involved, fitness levels go up.
Ganbare Japan!

This argument is same as - "McDonalds is the worlds most popular restaurant. Therefore, it is the best!" I am not convinced!
